I have been on Pristiq for about 6 years and have never reached a point where I have felt I was "living" my life. Today my doctor has asked me to changed from Pristiq to Zoloft. I will taper off and then on over the next 2 to 3 weeks. I have Valdoxan for the evening and some 2mg Valium in case things go real bad. I have changed medication once before and it was not enjoyable. Has anyone done this switch? What can I expect? Any advice or strategies to help me through? Thank you for your input, anything is helpful.

I've only quit Pristiq after taking it for like 12+ years before it pooped out. It's challenging to get off of because you can't split it. You just have to gradually take it every other day, then every other 2 days, etc. I knew I went to fast with headache and dizziness. I second the gene test, I took Zoloft and it was not for me after a day. Took the test and found out it's not in the cards for me.
This is so interesting. I had been on Zoloft for 4-5 years and was really not seeing a difference. It was not until my doctor suggested I get a generic cheek swab to see which medications worked best with my body. That is when we switched to Pristiq and it has been about 3 years now. I definitely noticed a major improvement when switching, however, it could be attributed to the fact that Zoloft was on the list of “no-no” medications and Pristiq was listed on my “good to go” medication list. Each person is different but definitely look into getting a test to narrow down the pool of antidepressants that react well with your genetic makeup. Helps to avoid the guessing game for sure!
I have never switched medications but I have been on two different medications for anxiety over the past 14 years.
I am currently on sertraline and doing well ( after a few hiccups!) I must admit that I feel better on sertraline than I did whilst on lexapro. But with any medication I still find that we need to do the work behind the scenes such as self care, meditation etc. I personally have to work hard on my thought life too because I tend to catastrophise everything!!
Good luck
