I was given tramadol for pain after hernia surgery, when I've been taking hydromorphone for hernia pain.
I get morphine for pain when I'm in the hospital, and hydromorphone when releast.

Well wetsail,
I find this a most interesting question, for a lot reasons. First, I am a health care provier. Second, what does it matter? Try what your doc is suggesting and if you have a problem, let your doc know. I'm am almost sure, any changes he feels are appropriate. Everybody (well almost everybody gets morphine in the hospital) and hydromorphone is Dilaudid, quite strong.
Hydromorphone is potent Morphine. You cant compare which is stronger unless you have the dosage. Hydromorphone being so potent may come in 4mg vs morphine may come in 30mg(more mg). Whenever i have switched narcotics before i take the new one, i use the Opiate conversion chart. Drs are wrong sometimes. Just google it. It is just to get an idea of a compaison of dosage of two opiates . It says enter daily dosage, you can also enter single 1 i guess.
