I had 2 stints placed in my heart veins 3 years ago. I have been taking Plavix since then. Can I stop taking Plavix? Would it be beneficial for me to stay on Plavix? I do not have any problems except for bruising.
When can I stop taking Plavix?

Most people are taken off of Plavix after the end of the first full year but that is not the case for everyone. Depending on the size of your stent, it's location and your heart condition only your cardiologist can say when you can stop taking plavix. My stent is 2.5mm, the second smallest stent made. It is a DES, short for drug eluting stent. It is in my main coronary artery just outside of my aorta. I have been taking Plavix for close to 7 1/2 years and can never stop. I'm a transplant candidate and if I were to get a heart is the only time I would have a chance of stopping. My platelet count is in the high range of normal they just don't stick together and form clots.
