Hi everyone I started sertraline 3 days ago due to my worsening health anxiety I took it in the morning at 10am and by 6pm that night I felt nauseous, took again on day 2 at the same time even though I still had nausea then started feeling light headed and spaced out amd trembling nausea set in alot worse by 1.30am I was vomiting so unsure if this is due to sertraline or if its a bug as my little one was sent home from school earlier in the week I have a doctor appointment Tuesday for other issues my question is should I keep taking the sertraline or stop this could just all be coincidental thank you

I've had severe GAD Disorder for many years. I have never been prescribed that medication. You obviously shouldn't be taking it. Your doctor should put you on actual anxiety medication. Maybe Paxil and Valium??
Sertraline (Zoloft) is FDA approved for the treatment multiple anxiety disorders.
Side effects are common when starting psychotropic medications.
Zoloft and Paxil along with several other medications are all SSRI class antidepressant/anxiolytics.
Valium is a benzodiazepine which is a sedative not anxiety medication.
I am on week six now and most of the side effects have gone. But in the first few weeks I had constant nausea and the sensation that I was going to vomit. I had read other stories of similar incidents so I knew I was not alone. Thankfully by week three the nausea disappeared. I highly recommend you read the reviews of sertraline here to encourage you ❤️
Thank you so much I'm actually feeling alot better today yesterday so far was my worst day lots of side effects I honestly thought I was at the end of the line but woke up feeling lots better I do keep reading on here just to keep the positivity up if I can get thru these side effects I'm hoping all will be OK
It sounds like you started at 50mg? As Wildcat says it takes at least a week or more to start settling into your system. Also if you do have the bug your child has it could make it worse! Dropping to 25 mg for a week and then deciding if you can handle switching to the higher dose could help. Try eating crackers when you take the sertraline. I had a hard time eating during dose changes and that sometimes lasted for several weeks. Take care.
Thank you so much yes I started on 50mg, I am feeling a little better today yesterday was a bad day all round for side effects but did manage to actually eat something
Hi, Rachlou!
Unfortunately, what you're describing are common side effects that some people might experience when first starting the medication. The good news is that they generally resolve within just a few days to a week or so.
Let your doctor know... you don't mention the dosage you're taking but slight reduction for a few days might help your metabolism adjust to the drug more smoothly. You might also want to ask them or your pharmacist about an OTC remedy for the nausea/vomiting... there are several that work very well.
Sertraline is a very good choice for anxiety and stress disorders so if you can get through this initial period it may make a huge difference for you.
Best regards,
Wildcat
Thank you so much. I am on 50mg and the vomiting just scared me a bit. I am suffering with health and anxiety sets all things off in my head I will be sure to mention it when I go
Not sure how to start a new question but I started sertraline 50mg in January and 2 months ago my doctor upped my dose to 100mg... and past few days I seem to have gone back to how I was before the meds is this a sign they aren't working for me anymore? At the moment I'm convinced I have Pagets disease of the breast I've been crying non stop today
Let your doctor know... you may need a dosage adjustment. The recommended therapeutic range is 50-200mg/day. It's very unlikely that the medication would stop working this soon... usually it takes many months to years before a drug like this "poops out".
It's also unlikely that you have Paget's disease unless you're over 50 and have/had an underlying form of cancer. If you have the typical symptoms you should see your doctor. Just wondering though if this is your anxiety acting up that causing these thoughts?
