Its not just the amount. B-12 is absorbed better if given in a shot, then when you take a pill. There are also sprays and meds you put under your tongue. Your doctor will determine what you need. There are times the shot is preferred, at least at first.
She is right. I worked for a naturopath for a period of time and I was taught that B12 is nearly wothless when taken by mouth. For one thing, stomach acid destroys B12. There is the sublingual route but it doesnt absorb as well as the injection does. For best results, injection is the way to go. No one enjoys needles (unless they are very strange) but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. If someone gives the injection correctly the pain should be minimal.
It really isn't the needle that hurts, but the medicine given. I've had B-12 and it barely hurts.
