Yes, Momma2; Please follow Jamie's advice, This is what it says in the warnings and the baby is the most important thing to worry about now. (((( Nursing
Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they are breastfeeding an infant.)))) This information all comes right off of this site drugs.com so please talk with the doctor again.
It was prescribed by my psychiatrist and she said it is safe. Even the mommymeds and lact meds site says its safe. But i don't know who to believe. Im nervous for the side effects as well.
Hi, Momma! Do you want to continue feeling poorly or do you want to try something to help yourself?
I want to feel better but even if the med is safe i have a problem starting it because i had bad experiences in the past.
Momma2; Please my friend WildcatVet and your doctor are correct. You need to put aside your fears and do what you need to do. You're doing a great job as far as worrying about the baby by the way congratulations. But the pills well do no good in the bottle,And we all have these same problems when it comes to new medications sadly there is no way of telling if you might get one or more side effects but the truth is with most medications they sound much worse than they are and the bad one's very rarely happen. But I know when you first start it you well get very sleepy so taking at bedtime and it is a tablet that is okay to break so start with a 1/2 or even a 1/4 to get your body and mind adjusted to it. And many people as far as weight if your worrying about that you eat what you have to the baby is the most important and the weight if it does come on you can work on when you are not breastfeeding.
This is a widely prescribed medication please for your sake get started on it. One other thing maybe the night you take it to make sure someone else is around so you can try to relax and have them help you with the little one. best wishes it is all going to work out.have a great evening Chuck1957 Please feel free to check back and let us know how your doing.
Thank you very much Chuck. I truly appreciate your kind words and encouragement. I'm too worried about the weight as i do need to gain some. The others frightened me. But you're right i do need to try it. I sent a message to my child's doctor to double check with her and if she gives me the go then i will start it. Thank you again and i will let you know.
Momma2; Great I find no reason that you can't use it while breastfeeding but we have to get you back on track, And I hope this medication well be the one to give you some relief. It sure does for many people so it's kind of just getting past the first few dose's as you know it's like anything else when you first start it hits you harder than once it's in your system. have a great evening. Chuck
Hey Chuck,
I haven't heard back from her doctor yet. But like I've mentioned i am very nervous about side effects and i read how weaning from this med was horrible. I have ativan for when i have my anxiety attacks and i user them only when i really need to. I've been dealing with anxiety since i was 17,now 33 but they became worse after my second baby. They have calmed down but i get stressed really easily now, and get so tense and have shortness of breath on a daily basis. Foggy brain and just always tired. I guess my question is have you ever known people to use vistaril on a daily basis for anxiety? I ask because i use to take that when i was younger when i had an attack. Only thing is it made me very sleepy and moody, but im sure i could get a smaller dose than 25mg. I guess I'm asking because I'm a little familiar with that med and woukd likely start it. I'm really scared of ssri's and maoi's. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
Momma; Yes I see the generic Vistaril used a lot still for anxiety and as far as the drowsiness etc it would normally get better with continued use. But for what you are going through I do feel the new medication would help you more and you could start it very slowly which would be what I would recommend. As you know if you have been having problems since your teen's you well have to try something better to keep this under control. But if you are to start the Remeron like 1/2 or less increase it to what the doctor wants you on and use your Ativan as needed hopefully you should start to feel better you do have to build up a level in your system so when you start it try and take it about the same time each day.
And yes it can be a bit hard going on and off of these type of medications but if you don't rush it and go off slowly like you go on I have really never had problems with the SSRI'S OR THE SNRI'S as far as Mao's I would only use as last resort you have lots of options and now would be a good time to try and get you chemical imbalance under control so you well be able to do the things you want and when you want to. And not have to worry about a anxiety or panic attack. Goodluck to you and you can do this for you and your family. Have a good day.
Thank you for your response Chuck. I will be seeing my childs doctor tomorrow so i will run these meds by her then. Also i already have Blood pressure on the low side like mine is rarely over 100 on top and rarely over 70 on the bottom will prazosin drop my blood pressure too low? She have 2mg of that and i thought about asking for 1 mg just incase. Just worry about the remeron, prazosin and ativan dropping my blood pressure lower. Thank you so much for your input. I won't be starting the prazosin yet until i get the feel of the remeron.
I would not worry on any of those except the Prazosin for dropping the blood pressure that one is used for many different reasons not sure why they are giving you that one. But run that by the doctor tomorrow also. Chuck
Yea that is the one thay is my main concern with the BP. I read up on that med and it helps alot of people with anxiety. That is why she gave it to me.
Hey Chuck,
I finally started the remeron laastnight. I took it at 7pm and by 7:30pm i could barely keep my eyes open. I took like a quarter of the whole dose as i was told i could cut it in half - i decided to go smaller. It has me very tired, groggy and had me very moody lastnight and this morning. I still wake through out the night to breastfeee my daughter. Im still tireid and it's 1:40pm. I also feel like the back of my throat is dry and i had weird taste this morning. Should this horrible tiredness let up? I plan on taking my next dose after i get my daughter in bed. Thank You!
Momma; Yes it well get better, It is new and your system has to get used to it. So just drink some extra liquid a dry mouth is common, then when it is not as hard on you that is when you should increase it to what the doctor said or at least the half it sure makes it easier on you for the feeling out of it moments when you wake up. Glad your getting some help and sleep keep it up.
Hi Momma-
Maybe call your child's Pediatric doctor and or your general doctor and ask about taking Remeron while breastfeeding. Remeron has it's pros and cons for some people. It is known for carb cravings, weight gain and sleepiness, hence to be taken at night. It does work well for some.
Hope you find your answers soon :)
There are two breastfeeding sites that say its safe but i still worry. Ill send my childs doctor an email see what she says. Im nervous about my side effects as well of it is safe for my baby.
