Hi, russ! I'm sorry to hear of your life situation. Celexa can work very well for anxiety disorders although everyone responds differently to this type of medication. One problem for you might be that you may see improvements in the first few weeks but it can sometimes take 4-8 weeks to become fully effective. You might have to continue the diazepam until then and then wean off of it. When you do though do it with your doctor's supervision because benzodiazepine withdrawal can be very difficult for some people. Best regards and I hope you're feeling better quickly.

Celexa is prescribed off-label (it's only FDA approved for depression so far) to treat generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and a few other anxiety/stress disorders. "Celexa has an average rating of 7.3 out of 10 from a total of 796 ratings on Drugs.com. 65% of reviewers reported a positive effect, while 16% reported a negative effect." Hope this helps.
