I was taking Ozempic. My hair started falling out really bad. I stopped taking Ozempic about a month ago. Now I have short hairs at the top of my head where my hair is growing back in. Wish I had never started talking it!
I have been on OZEMPIX For about a year and a half now and I just started noticing my hair sitting in the past few months. I’m on 1 mg and it’s scaring the crap out of me. I want to go off of it but I’m scared of that as well so I’m going to wean myself off and try to drop to .25 and see if that changes anything. I’ll update once I see what’s going on.
I’ve been on Ozempic for 11 months now. I started it and did 6 months of weigh-ins to qualify for bariatric surgery. I’ve lost 50 lbs, and got my BMI too low to get the sleeve approved (the irony!) I am just now starting with hair loss. 1 mg dose. I hate to stop it as I want to lose another 30-40 lbs (arguing with my dr as she thinks only another 20 lbs.
I went on the lowest dose of Ozempic in April 2022 and I felt horrible. I had nausea, fatigue, headaches and I barely ate. I went to the hair dresser 1.5 months in and half my hair came out. I was so sad and managed to figure out it was the ozempic. I stopped it straight away (does last in the body for 6 weeks after last dose) and submitted the event to the TGA. I have been using Kerastase Genesis Serum and shampoo which has helped strengthen my hair. It's now December and my hair still hasn't grown to match my shoulder length hair but it's growing back and it's hasn't come out since I stopped Ozempic.
They won't admit it's a side effect until enough people submit an adverse event to the TGA or FDA. So if you have had this issue, please do this and help ensure people know what can happen if they use this drug. It really affects your mental health and self esteem. I love my hair more than I need to loose weight, it's not worth it.
I think I am going to stop Ozempic as well..just to many side effects. Worse is loss..I had a full head of thick hair which now looks like the crypt keeper. I wear a wig anytime I have to go out. My bald spots filled in but are still about 1" long..but still loosing hair. I want my A1C to be better but not sure at the cost of being bald. I tell my doctor every visit & they deny it is med related. I recently changed to a new endo & he says "oh no it isn't med related"" obviously they aren't reporting this to anyone or they would see the large #'s of this symptom.
I am also losing a lot of hair. I am going off it. I am just hoping my hair grows back . Has anyone stopped ozempic and noticed that there hair was coming back ?
My hair is coming back. I had hair about 4 inches past my butt. I quit Ozempic as soon as I realized that's what was causing my hair to fall out. Not just my hair, but Also my eyelashes. Now, I have a bunch of little short hairs growing back. They're only about 2 inches long, my eyelashes are also coming back in.

Ozempic definitely caused my hair loss. It's frustrating that the company and doctors won't acknowledge this fact. I switched to Mounjaro (only because I have a coupon) and hope that the hair loss stops but I'm not too hopeful. I'll give it a few months and if the hair loss doesn't subside I'm getting off all meds.
I was on Wegovy for six months with no noticeable sign of hair loss. It seemed to be working well but then my insurance quit covering it, so I was switched to Ozempic. I have had all sorts of issues. Elevated testosterone levels, swelling in my abdomen, constant bloating, and most of all lots of hair loss! The more I read about this online the more common it seems to be, even though its not listed as a side effect of the drug. I swear my pony tail is half the size it used to be. My hair constantly comes out. I discontinued the shots three weeks ago, but I am still having issues. My PCP tells me that it may take 5-6 weeks for the shot to fully be out of my system. I hope this helps.
Same here. I stopped about 3 weeks ago too. Let me know if you see any improvement.
I was on Wegovy for 9 months and at month 7, on 2.4mg dose, is when I noticed significant hair loss. I told my health care provider and she told me the hair loss percentage for this medication was 1 to 3% and I said well lucky me I’m one of those people. She did not acknowledge the medication was the reason for my hair loss. I stopped taking Wegovy but unfortunately have started to regain weight. I was going to start Ozempic but after reading all these comments of hair loss, I won’t take that either. Has anyone taken Qsymia for weight loss?
Ozempic and Wegovy are the same medicine, just different brands.
I'm currently on the highest dose available. I've been on this dose for 2 months. It's working very well for me as I've lost nearly 30lbs over the last 4 months. However, over the last 4 weeks, I've been losing an unbelievable amount of hair. I typically fill the brush, the drain, the brush again, and then a few more handfuls, daily! I feel like at this rate, I could be bald by my 45th birthday in November!
I've also had the "rarer" side effects of indigestion since starting this. I now take 2 different medications daily to control it. I was ok with managing indigestion, but since the hair loss, I'm not sure I want to continue with this, especially if the makers don't want to acknowledge other side effects, that so many are reporting.
I've reported this side effect to the FDA. I'm including the link, if anyone else would like to as well!
I went up to the 1.0 dosage in April and it is July and my hair loss over the last 4 weeks is staggering. So depressing! The fact that they don’t list us as a possible side effect of the medication is unbelievable.
I have been losing an excessive amount of hair. It is extremely thin. I am also on Ozempic.
I’ve been on ozempic 3 weeks now and have noticed my hair coming out in clumps
I have been on Ozempic for about six months now. I have lost over half of my hair! When I brush my hair the brush is full and I look like I am holding a hamster when I take it out every night! I see hair on my sink and even all over the floor in front of my mirror!! My scalp is visible now and I am freaking out!!! In a few months I will not have any hair left! The only thing I have done different is the Ozempic. I lost over 30 pounds fairly quickly but it has been off for several months now. I am going to discontinue the Ozempic in hopes that my hair will regrow!!!
Has your hair returned to normal since you stopped Ozempic?
Although my doc says this isnt a side effect everything I read online says it is ! I started it in April 2021... shortly after my larger dose started I noticed shedding bad... and a bald spot about size of a quarter. By November 2021 it had gotten to the size of an orange & my scalp very visible on the top all around. I stopped the meds with my last dose in december... had a endo check up in January & she said to stop the meds too but she doesnt think the med caused it ??? But get to a dermotologist..did that asap... was diagnosed with alopecia... since being off of ozempic the shedding is slowing down but nearly bald all on top now..it is so upsetting ! I am getting steroid shots in the head & actually go back 3/15/22 for another round & to see if he thinks it is helping... I am super bummed because my blood sugar was so good & I lost some weight.
My appetite came back with a vengence arghhhhhhh !! I want to take it again on the lower dose but I am to afraid..so I guess I will have to be fat with some hair or thin & bald !! Anyone else dealing with this ??
Yep, exactly this! Appetite came back with a vengeance. Switched to metformin, I want my hair back, it’s been a year, I don’t think it’s going to regrow.
Shots did not help me.
When I started taking ozempic my hair began to come out so much it scared me. I’ve taken other similar meds like victoza and never had this problem. There are piles of hair when I wash or brush my hair! I like the help the medication gives me, but what can I do to stop the hair loss???
The hair loss is most likely to hormonal factors and fluctuations, in addition to, most who have a sudden drop in caloric intake. This is similar to people who have undergone a bariatric surgery; roughly 3-4 after the start of the treatment hair loss is an effect. Start with multivitamins. The hair will grow back over time. It has just been a little shock to the system.
