Hi, I was just prescribed nortriptyline for anxiety & depression & have not taken it yet, just curious if this makes you extremely tired, most of the other meds I've been on do, if so does anyone have any suggestions other than caffiene to help with this because lately coffee seems to make my panic attacks considerably worse
Does nortriptyline usually make you tired?

I was tired the first week that i took the nortriptyline but it has subsided. I do find that it helps me sleep better at night overall. I am taking 20mg at night for migraine prevention.
thank you so so much it makes me feel a lot less uneasy about taking it now hearing that from someone who's actually taken it, I have also suffered from migraines since I was a child & am very happy to find out that this med is prescribed for that also... has it given you any relief from the migraines? Mine have been extremely resistant to meds & if this could help with that too it'd be a life saver
Hey, Think! Nortriptyline can cause some sedation as do all ADs in some people, but it's considered one of the least sedating antidepressants. There's a good chance that if you do feel some tiredness this side effect will diminish within the first couple of weeks.
Best wishes, WCV
Thanks! That gives me some hope
Yes. The most common side effects include dry mouth, sedation, constipation, and increased appetite, mild blurred vision, tinnitus, tremors, sleep talking often euphoria and mania. An occasional side effect is a rapid or irregular heartbeat. Alcohol may exacerbate some of its side effects and should be avoided.
Thanks... was not aware of the sleep talking... do you know if that side effect is common?
I was given this drug from a Dr at Mayo clinic for chorionic pain. Can anyone tell me how the meds work? He has me taking three 10 mg capsules each night.
Does it make you extremely tired the next day?
Does it make you very hungry? If so then I won't be taking it. I've lost 28 pounds and it was very hard for me to lose and I won't take anything that's going to cause me to gain it back.
Were you able to sleep at night?
Thanks for any input you can give
Thanks
