I’ve just started taking this medication. Can anyone share their experience of how long the tired/ groggy feeling the next morning lasts please?

The first time I tried taking this, I started at the half 7.5 and went up to 15 but struggled with lots of daytime drowsiness. I started back on it recently on just the half and it seems to be going much better. Give it some time, but also make sure you are taking it around the same time at night and getting adequate sleep. I was reading up on it and found some forums where people said to take it at like 8:45 if you want to go to bed around 11:00 or midnight. And that actually has helped me quite a bit. So maybe something you want to try.
Low dose of 15 mg or below I’d say never leaves you
My doctor wants to try me on Remeron
I have read the side effects
I am sleepy on Prozac
Has anyone had a good experience?
I started Mirtazapine three years ago. Initial dose of 35mg upped to 60mg, where I have stayed since then. I have Bi-Polar and a serious case of BPD. My reaction initially was not really grogginess, but a sense of not being there. Of being completely numbed and walking around with my head in the clouds. That has, for the most part, gone. I was told to take my meds at night before I went to sleep. Insomnia was a huge problem because I was so amped up and psychotic. mirtazapine did nothing to help me sleep. In fact I felt initially that it was keeping me up. I started taking my pills in the morning and that has worked well for me. I don't feel sleepiness until 3 or 4 in the afternoon, but that probably isn't connected. Mirtazapine and Lamtrogine have been a godsend for me. I'm 60, and was only diagnosed three years ago. A little bit too late to make up for all the things never accomplished or missed in my life.
I still feel really good. I am having to learn things I was incapable of doing pre-medication. That's a chore. But being able to live my life not amped up 24/7 by the anxiety and racing thoughts is such a new experience I can't really complain.
I've been taking 15mg a day every night, my depression is still at 100% and you feel like crap all day, you feel run down and tired 24 hours a day! Another side effect is it makes you feel like you are not there like you are a ghost and it's terrifying
I've been on this medication for 6 months, 6 months of pure Hell
How long have you been taking it? Side effects generally resolve within days to a couple of weeks.
If it's been longer than that you need to let your doctor know.
As for the depression you're on a low initial dose and you may need an increase. Although some folks see improvements in the first few weeks it can take 4-8 weeks for the medication to become fully effective.
I'd recommend that you contact your doctor and get their professional advice.
Take care!

Have you told your doctor that you're having severe problems with the medication?
Hello so sorry to hear that mirtazapine has not been working for your depression.
Does it help you with sleep? I am asking because I just started this med on low dose 7mg and I am using it for insomnia. I am glad this site exists, that way you can do a little more in-depth research on your own and find what others are saying about the meds they take. Good luck
About 6 months I've been taking it, and all my doctor wants to do is tell me to take more Seroquel instead. My wife committed suicide with Seroquel after our daughter died from doctor neglect after she was raped. She was beaten and raped with a baseball bat and the doctors refused to give her any sort of pain medication because of the stigma about pain medication. So my daughter got her own mediation aka Heroin and she over dosed. She didn't have insurance so the doctors couldn't make any extra money from her trama. Now I'm in pain management and I can't get proper mental health care because I go to pain management, it's the governments laws that block the mental health doctors from giving people the proper medicine they need. So my mental health doctor just gives me ton of Seroquel to take for PTSD and extreme anxiety and panic attacks daily. I hide in my house all day and only leave for doctor appointments. I can't wait for the day my life ends.

What advice did your doctor give you?
He just says sorry I can't give you the proper medicine I know you need. He says it's very frowned upon and almost totally blocked by laws now that people taking pain medication should not be taking benzos like Xanax or Klonopin and if anything happened to me he would be in trouble. It's all stems from people abusing the drugs and taking too much of both together and over dosing, so I'm being punished because of what other people have done. I've been in pain management for over 10 years and never had a problem with medication, I don't even drink any sort of alcohol. He feels bad that the government has his hands tied. I have had countless surgeries on my back and knees, living in pain every day is pure Hell, and the mental pain is pure Hell too. It's basically like banning alcohol because a few people got DUIs and hurt or killed people. I did nothing wrong and I'm the one that has to suffer for it.
A friend of mine died and committed suicide because they took him off of his Xanax instantly. The only reason I'm still alive is because of my mom, I could never do anything to hurt her and if I died she would probably go crazy,we are very close. She raised me as a single mother and she is the best most caring and honest person I know. I know I can probably go to a drug dealer and buy them but I don't want to do that I want to do things right. Thank for listening to my story. God Bless
For heaven's sake don't even think about street drugs! People are dropping dead from drugs cut with Fentanyl.
For me, I took it at 6 initially, knowing I wake up around 4am. I realized after day one I was tired the next morning. Normally I would take my sleep or night meds around 7-7:30 because I go to bed at 8:30. I was taking 12.5 Ambien to sleep combined with other medications that relaxed me at night. I never thought this medicine would work for sleep, but it does. I just use Lunesta on Sunday night now and I am up to 30mg on this med. I can take it right before bed (if I forget to take it at 7/7:30) without adverse side effects the next morning now. My doctor started me very low at 7.5 then I took a second pill a week before I saw him so I was at 15. That just barely helped. We were going for anxiety relief during the day as well, and I wasn’t getting that enough—although it did work from day one to lower my resting heart rate. By now you’ve probably got over the hump and have decided to be on this med or not.
I like it because there aren’t any sexual side effects or really adverse effects after the first couple weeks getting used to it. If you’re tired still make sure to also take a really good multi vitamin and supplement with Vitamin D and B12. Most of us lack those. Green tea in the morning instead of coffee is also a good alternative for antioxidants and it has more caffeine than coffee. If you add a little local honey to it that can also help allergies (which can also contribute to fatigue). I have recommended this drug to my college sophomore stepdaughter. She was having anxiety, insomnia, and panic attacks. She loves it. I also went to the doctor with my mother in law who has advanced Alzheimer’s and her friend said she should take xanax but I recommended this medicine for her as well to the doctor, and she agreed to that for her also.
Hey,
I've been taking this a few months now and only recently just started taking double the dosage (30) and feel groggy pretty much the whole day. It also gives me brain fog and makes me feel kinda high. I notice this especially when I'm out at night - it feels like I'm not really there, it's really weird. In terms of sleep though, I sleep really well because of this drug, but that's about it in terms of what it's helped.
It makes you feel like you are a ghost, it's scary
Hi.
Yes I have been on Mirtazapine for ten days now feel very groggy and not very sharp 15mg.Stick with it???
My doctor said the grogginess should stop after 8 months to a year, so expect to feel like that for a long time. And it might make you feel like you are a ghost so be careful please. Good luck, it's so hard to find the right antidepressant
I recently started taking mirtazapine and the groggy feeling was pretty bad for up to about 10 days, where I felt sleepy throughout the day. The sleepiness is wearing off now.
Hi, Lloyd!
It may just be a matter of giving it a little time as side effects usually resolve within just days to a week or two... and they generally lessen along the way.
You should report side effects to your health care provider anyway so give a call and get their advice, especially if the tired feelings are severe or persist.
Been on this medication for 6 months and the grogginess is still at 100%, u say 2 weeks and that's a joke
For most users the side effects... if they have any at all... do wear off quickly. As with any medication there will always be a small number of people who respond differently from the norm.
From the literature on mirtazapine from the National Health Service:
"Usually any side effects go away after a few weeks as the body adjusts to the medication. A common side effect is drowsiness, which usually wears off after a few days."
BTW, 6 years with mirtazapine (Remeron)... it's been a perfect medication for me. Very effective and no short- or long-term side effects except for a bit of drowsiness for the first couple of days.
