Hi all. Wondering if anyone can help please? I have been a very good sleep all my life, probably sleeping too much, and often napping. Then a couple of years ago after a couple of traumatic events involving family members I suddenly stopped sleeping. No more naps, and could not initiate sleep. I was put on mirtazapine, for the first year just half a dose (7.5mg) I slept great. Then suddenly it stopped working, so Dr upped to 15mg still no joy. Now they want me to up to 30mg. I am a bit reluctant. I gave tried low doses zopiclone and zolpidem and tamazrpam with no joy. Also done councilling hypnotherapy etc. I eat healthy and drink herbal teas. I am now not sleeping until 5am if it all, very disruptive to work etc. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

SUZ; Hope your having luck by now but it is very common to take 30mg and also very common to start you out with a low dose for side effect reason or that is enough for many people,Try and stick with the 30mg and see if that well get you back into a sleeping routine it is very hard to do much of anything without sleep. And we are all different so hope that is or well work for you other wise talk with your doctor again.
Thanks for advice, I think with me it's more psychological if I sleep or not, the key to it with me is not to think about it! Even 30mg felt no different to other doses. Thanks for your help chuck
Suz; Not a problem it really is a tough problem, I think after a while many of us have this same problem and no matter what we take or how much it is a real battle to get that sleep we need so bad. I know a lot of times it just has to run it's course then we get back to normal whatever that is then the sleeping problems come back. Sure would be nice if they could come up with something that really would work for lots of us when we need it. Best of luck. Just do your best to rest as you can.
Hi Suz-
Sleep is something that we need to function. You can try the 30 mg of Mirtazapine to see if it works. You did not say why you were 'reluctant' to use it. Some people have used Trazadone, Hydroxide and Propranolol off label to help with sleep. Best to discuss all the alternatives with your doctor.
Hope you get some Zzzzzs soon :)
Hiya, just reluctant because the sleep side effect stopped working at lower doses, so wasn't sure why they upping my dose... it's meant to b less effective for sleep at higher doses
I went up to 30 in order to get to sleep and stay asleep for a decent amount of time. It seemed t o work for me. I hope you can catch a break soon, not sleeping is the pits. It puts everything else off.
OK thank you, good to know it worked for you
