I had minera inserted 3 weeks ago and have had spotting ever since, which I understand will go away eventually, but the cramping is pretty much everyday, very low, and restricts even being mobile on a bad day. I never had frequent cramping with my periods so this is almost unbearable for me. I am not sure if I should get it checked or removed, or just wait since it has only been 3 weeks.
Mirena - How long does the cramping generally last?

Hi, I just had mine inserted on November 16th 2015. It really hurt when I got it in, but I've never had any kids. They also never told me about any of the symptoms I'd get. Well for the past month I have had EXTREME pain. On the 2nd week of having it I called and asked what I could take to control the cramps and they told me aleve. Well since it has been hurting me so much I couldn't just keep taking it or else my system would get immune to it. So a couple weeks later (last Friday) I called and told them I wanted it removed. So they said that was fine and I went ahead and went in and was thinking about getting it removed. Well they had told me my Dr would be a couple more hours till he could. And of course I couldn't wait that long because I had to get back to school. So I just went ahead and talked to the nurse and I decided to keep it and she gave me a prescription to take. Well the next day (Saturday) I was having the WORST pain I have ever felt in my life.
My grandmother found me in the floor of my house bawling my eyes out and immediately rushed me to the hospital. They told me everything was fine from the ultrasound but that this was just not for me. So today (Monday) I called for an appointment and am finally getting in tomorrow morning to get it removed! I do not recommend this foreign device to anyone!! Worst experience ever!!
Hey I got mine removed about a week or so after my initial post below. It was extremely painful and it was such an awful experience, I am only just back in the real world, it made me lose 5 weeks of my life as I was on a high dosage of codeine. My clients I work with were left without a therapist for all that time. I also have not had children. I think the reaction of extreme pain is not that common as this thread was the only thing I could find with extensive searching about people who had unmanageable pain. My pain finally went down about 3 days after the removal but it took me a good week and a half to feel better. I agree this was the worst experience ever, my mom who is notoriously skeptical of doctors took me to a hospital asap as she thought I was going to die as she had never seen me so ill. I also do not recommend at all!!!
I want to know if the removal hurts?
I had the Mirena inserted 6/23/15 and am also experiencing major cramping... as in doubled-over, near tears kinda pain.
I have endometriosis and iron-deficiency anemia, so I don't know if these are contributing factors. All I know is that I got the Mirena to try to alleviate symptoms. So far, it's NOT helping! I have an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday, so hopefully I'll have a better idea. I'll post again after I talk to her!
Hi there, please can you tell me what your resolution was here. I've had the coil for almost two weeks (also pretty much identical medical situation to you: endometriosis, anaemia on and off and I have hypothyroidism). I'm in so much pain, I've been on bed rest for 8 days after being rushed to hosp in ambulance because I passed out in pain. I've been searching the internet for hours and yours is finally the only story I've found that's similar to mine. Please help, I need to go back to work! X

I got my Mirena put in on July 1, 2015. I have been cramping bad since then. I would also like to know when does this pain stop. It's so uncomfortable!
I am hoping your cramping is lessening I had the mirena inserted on 08/14/2015 and I have never before experienced cramping like this someone actually likened to labour contractions and never before having a child I thought my god lol I am giving it a solid month if the pain and constant discharge don't stop I am going to my dr to see what is up ..How are your symptoms now?
It's unfortunate no one responded at the time. I hope your cramping has resolved.
I haven't used Mirena myself but the link below has reviews that you may find useful.
