It doesn't for me. Metoprolol tartrate is the non time release version. Catares works very good for dropping B/P quickly for me, mine was 215/90, I spike very high regularly. Not good to take a Beta blocker with Catapres though. When mine goes very high they tell me to go to emergency, the problem with that is I would need to move in there.
