I take metformin 500 mg twice a day. Is it alright to take them every 10 hours?

I usually take the twice a day dose 12 hours apart, but I have taken it 8 to 10 hours apart if my bg levels are running on the high side. The biggest issue for me when taking the dose too close together is hypoglycemia.
