I have two arteries that are blocked and in need of stents. My average platelet count is 42 k to 48k My bone marrow biopsy was negative. I had a quadrupile bypass in January 1996. I am now 58, have diabetes and live damage due to taking 80 mg Merck's anti cholesterol drug for eleven years.
Having low platelets is it safe for me to take Plavix after the stents are applied?

Your dr should have been watching your liver function, while you were on it.
You need to discuss it with your cardiologist. Make sure he knows your platelet count. Plavix won't decrease the count it keeps them from joining together and make a clot, However if its low, you already have a bleeding problem.
