I have had 2 back surgeries including a double-fusion using my own bone. After 20 years I developed terrible back pain and sciatica. An MRI showed significant arthritis, calcification and stenosis. I also have migraines and the Gabapentin has helped a lot in both areas, with minimal side effects.
How long can you safely take 300mg. Gabapentin, 3X daily?

I take 900mg. 4x a day (3600mg.)now and I seem to be fine... although, my dose was just increased to that from 600mg. 3x a day (1800mg. total). I originally started on Gabapentin in 2002 due to a back injury (torn disc L4 - L5) and now degenerative bone disease too. I started the Gabapentin on 300mg. 4x a day (1200mg.) but for the first 2 weeks it was like being on acid... walls were melting, colors were much more vivid... it was a fun ride but I told my doc and he laughed and then lowered my dose to 300md. 3x a day (900mg.) and that took care of the melting walls and stuff. A few weeks later I went back up to 300mg. 4x a day and I was fine. I've been on Gabapentin for 13 years now and it hasn't caused me any long term problems so I'm guessing it's safe enough. I hope this helps! :)
Sorry about the *300md* typo. ;)
Many thanks StyxNyx. Yes, it helps a lot to know I can probably take it for a long time. The benefits have been amazing!!
The main thing that bothers me is that I start feeling a little "spacey" an hour or so before my next dose.
