I just started taking amoxicillin while on ortho tri-cyclen lo. I am to take the amoxicillin for 10 days. How long after I finish them is it safe to have unprotected sex without worrying about an unwanted pregnancy?
How long should I wait before having unprotected sex when taking antibiotics and birth control?

Answers
Your birth control is not affected by any other kind of antibiotics
Based on what? This is from our own web site:
Contraceptive effectiveness may be reduced when hormonal contraceptives are coadministered with antibiotics, anticonvulsants, and other drugs that increase the metabolism of contraceptive steroids. This could result in unintended pregnancy or breakthrough bleeding. Examples include rifampin, barbiturates, phenylbutazone, phenytoin, carbamazepine, felbamate, oxcarbazepine, topiramate, griseofulvin and bosentan. Several cases of contraceptive failure and breakthrough bleeding have been reported in the literature with concomitant administration of antibiotics such as ampicillin and tetracyclines. However, clinical pharmacology studies investigating drug interaction between combined oral contraceptives and these antibiotics have reported inconsistent results.
I would wait until a week after you stop them to have unprotected sex.
