My dentist prescribed me Acetaminophen codeine #3 tablets, I am to take one tab every 8 hours. I took my first one over an hour ago and have no relief. It is for my serious cavity/headache pain. I have read for some people this med doesn't work.
How long can Tylenol-Codeine #3 take to start easing pain?

I agree with the previous answer that said antibiotic medication should only be used when there are clear signs of infection. Antibiotics are over prescribed and are used more frequently than they should be. As it does help with infection caused by something like a sinus infection, it is also important to know that this infection will normally go away on its own with OTC sinus medications. Using antibiotics more than necessary can cause antibiotic resistance, which can be devastating and even deadly if you ever get a severe infection and the strain of bacteria isn’t being controlled properly by the antibiotic because of the poor misuse or overuse of antibiotics in which could’ve been avoided. If you’re not seeing any relief after an hour prior to the administration of the medication, I would recommend you consult your dentist or primary physician to see about other possible pain management medications to treat your acute pain. Dentists, just like any other physicians, are extremely hesitant and being pressured by the FDA to use opioid drugs very scarcely due to the epidemic. For the case of acute short-term pain, it may be necessary for a more effective pain medication such as low/mid dose hydrocodone/acetaminophen or tramadol along with OTC pain medication such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Tylenol no. 3 w/Codeine is a relatively mild/weak pain medication used primarily for treating mild/moderate pain. Remember you are the patient and have a say in what health care/medication treatment is best/necessary for you. If you’re in pain then don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for something that helps. Hydrocodone is very much needed in the majority of scenarios that short-term acute pain management is needed. Most physicians won’t have a problem in prescribing it for a short time. I hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon!
If you aren't getting any relief you might want to talk to your dentist about also an antibiotic inflammatory bc I have had many iral surgeries and toothache prescription as well and found that the pain meds with a non contraindicated anti inflammatory with the pain meds made for better relief
