I was told by my doctor that I am suffering with anxiety and stress ,I have taken 10mg for two weeks and then increased to 20 mg a week ago ,apart from a few side affects ,insomnia, nausea, lack of appetite, yawning, and strangely feeling more anxious, these tablets don't seem to be lifting my mood,I was hoping someone would be able to reassure me that these tablets will eventually start working
How long does it take citalopram to work?

Hi, i have been taking Citalopram since 2010 and they have been very successful in treating my depression. I started on 20mg, after 3 weeks of debilitating depression my doctor increased my dose to 40mg and i felt better almost immediately. It usually takes around 4 weeks to get past the induction side effects and notice a significant change in your mood. I would say to hang in there a bit longer and you should soon be feeling relief from your anxiety and stress. Personally i think Citalopram is a very good antidepressant. Wishing you well
Thanks delila for your reply ,I'm going to give it a little longer ,if I don't see an improvement I'm back to the doctors for a stronger dose ,haven't been able to face work for 3 weeks ,with no sick pay which only adds to the anxiety and stress
You are welcome, i'm sorry to hear about the financial implications that are happening for you. I hope you are soon feeling much better
Hi Jasper-
You are on the cusp of the Celexa kicking in. It can take 4-8 weeks for the full therapeutic level.
You are almost there! All the side effects are not unusual and usually go away or lessen. If you still feel it is not lifting your mood after 6-8 weeks talk to your doctor. It works well for other from what I have heard. I was on the cousin drug Lexapro and it took 4 weeks for it to kick in. It helped my anxiety.
Hang in there! You should start to feel better soon. :)
