I took my first dose last night for hypertension, bp went lower for 2 hours them shot up again. Today it's still high, no difference. Do I just need to be patient? Last bp today was 188/96.
How long does it take carvedilol to work?

Hi Cork; Yes give it another day, I am guessing you took it at bedtime this way it does not knock you out and you avoid many side effects when you first start it. Anyway if it is still that high Tomorrow gives you doctor or nurse a call and let them know. It is not uncommon to have to mess around with the dose to get you right on the spot. And it is great you have your own blood pressure machine. Which by the way if the doctor did not tell you many offices like you to take your blood pressure machine into the office when you get your pressure tested and they can calibrate it to the one in the office. Then you know it is right on the spot. Please feel free to write anytime for question or if you want to check in You won't find a place with nicer people wanting to help.
Carvedilol tablets should be taken with food to slow the rate of absorption and reduce the incidence of orthostatic effects. just noticed this about taking with food makes it work better. have a good day chuck
Hello Chuck, thanks so much for answering! I guess I'll give it another day, I'm just so tired of feeling this way I'm impatient and want to feel better yesterday lol. I have taken my bp monitor with me to the dr's, thank you... great suggestion! I'm on an 8 a.m. 8 p.m. schedule with it..I slept most of the day today, hopefully that will straighten out once my body adjusts to it. Thanks again so much for your help, I really appreciate it. Take care :)
