I have been on meds for over 25 years, different ones for different conditions, I am 56 y/o.
I will be objective and advice you to leave your unanswered questions in the past, what the past can give you is experience, good or bad, is experience... I recommend you focus on today in order to have a life now and tomorrow.
You must go Dr. shopping, find a good and honest psychiatrist, in my opinion, you need to be treated with medication (s), the right one (s) and at the right dosage, you need guidance so also a psychologist/therapist would be a good idea and on top of that, start yoga (e.g.), or any activity that will help you put your mind in other places for a while daily.
Conditions in some patients tend to worsen over time, specially if you were not treated properly and now you are not treating what must be treated asap, so, again, if I were you, instead of trying to figure out the past learn from it and find a life now, today and live it to th fullest... life is short, time passes without you realizing it, one day you are 40 and the next day one wakes up and one is 50, speaking from experience.
This is no pep talk at all, so go out there and get your life together at whatever the cost may be, you are still young and build something, ,like a family of your own... yours, your doing.
