... of drug that needs to build up in your system or can it just be taken when you feel anxiety coming on? My dr prescribed .5 mg twice a day for anxiety and panic. I'd prefer to take it as needed but need to know if I would benefit more by taken it daily
Can I take Klonopin as needed or does it need to be taken daily? Just curious if it is the type?

My dr recommended not to take it daily. Instead I was prescribed .5 lexapro (PPI)daily and .5 klonopin as needed. The daily has helped and I've gone down to half a pill a day. If I do feel a panic attack I take a Klonopin and within no time at all I am relieved and relaxed. I take klonopin probably 1-3 times a week. Before lexapro I was almost constantly having panic attacks. Klonopin has been a life saver for me. I remember the first time I got klonopin(3-4years ago). I was taking 1 in cvs parking lot lol. I went to movies afterwards and took rest of day off work. It was fast acting and anxiety was gone. My anxiety was from(I think) divorce and family loss. Some people may have larger issues than me and need something more. It was crippling at times for me. I froze in meeting 1 time(that didn't help ugh). I suggest klonopin as a as needed and something like a ppi for daily but ask your dr. I am not a dr by any means. Lol hope this helps someone
your tolerance will build up quickly if taken daily, take half in morning, half at night for a week, then take it once a day in the morning after you have woken up a bit. this is best for anxiety and panic. and if you take it as needed, you will not build up much of a tolerance, so it will make you tired and drowsy every time you take it. Xanax in my opinion is worse. it makes me extremely tired, and even with a tolerqnce, I still get tired taking it. but with clonazepam, I do not get tired once I have a tolerance built up.
You could try taking it at night then breaking the tablet in half for your morning dose. Hopefully that would be a start in it helping you without being so sleepy. And you can build from there. Take care! (EJ23)
As a Medical Assistant and Veteran. I am prescribed 1mg of Klonopin to take 3 times a day. My suggestion is take it daily. I made the mistake and tried to handle it on my own and stopped taking my medicine for a month. Either I went through withdrawls which I believe I didn't, no shakes, headaches, urges, nothing... but I didn't notice the change in being able to go out, be in crowds... etc... So I would recommend daily use just like the other two advised. Just my opinion
Thanks for all of the responses. So far I have taken 1 daily (at night) but can not see myself taking it in the morning as it knocks me out. I have my children to tend to so me zonked out on the couch is not a good scenario. I was really hoping to hear this was more of an "as-needed" type of thing. :-/
With my experience with klonopin it needs to build up in your system. A fast acting benzo such as xanax or ativan is better for panic attacks.
Its more benefit to take it and prevent the anxiety and panic then allow it to happen and try to treat it. Klonopin isn't going to act fast enough if you're having a panic attack.
