Hi, Escitalopram, as with all SSRI's, take time to adjust to. It is usual to take 4 weeks give or take for it to work to its full potential. During this time you will experience induction side effects unfortunately, some of which are anxiety & lethargy as you have noticed. It is 'normal' to 'feel worse before you feel better', but in the long run it can really be worth it. I take the sister medication, Citalopram. In the beginning it was really tough but it has changed myself for the better. You may not fair too badly, just take each day at a time. If you feel very concerned about severe symptoms, please contact your doctor/psychiatrist, but in the main time try to take it easy...
Thanks Delilah!
I hope the extra bit of anexity that came along with this med goes off in next couple of days...
Actually what happens is is take the medicine in the evening and when I get up in the morning I feel good but an hour after I feel nervous and uneasy. What should I do get myself out of such phase because during that time my heart starts to sink and I don't feel doing anything. Thankfully I have a week off from my work so I can manage getting such things but I m worried about the time when I start going to work
It can be tough getting motivated in the mornings. Think of something to look forward to! Tor me, i always get up and have a cup of coffee (or 2) and log on to my laptop and check up on today's news, what my friends have been up to (Facebook), and text my friends good morning and look forward to their replies. Also, if it is a case of physically getting out of your bed, set your alarm clock and put it at the other end of the room so you have to get out of your warm bed. It is difficult to know what else to suggest. I was given a book for Christmas, '365 words of well-being for women' which contains a different positive affirmation every day. It really does make me think!
Hello, I am dealing with something similar.. mornings are the most challenging for me because I have a whole day ahead of me. I’ve been seeing a counselor, and I just started taking my medication in the morning time rather than the evening time, I’ve noticed that has helped me sleep better and gives me something to look forward to in the morning, my mornings have been a lot better. Start a journal and a calendar and have something written down on your calendar every day. Even if it’s a note to walk around the block, or to pay bills, when you’re dealing with anxiety and depression it’s best to have some sort of routine. Connect yourself with some nature as well, once in the morning and once in the evening.
