My doctor recentally perscribed me to 10mg ambien to go with my .5mg klonopins and 20mg celexa. Originally he said the klonopins would knock me out. They dont. Called him, he called the pharm and gave me 10mg ambien, doesnt work either. I took tylenol pm and benedryl for a long time up to 5 tablets a night to fall asleep. I had to start taking nyquil due to my natural tolerance getting built up. Nothing works like the nyquil but it leaves me so drowsy. CAN ANYONE HELP ME? i just want to sleep, im 21 and got a job and in college full time. i have to sleep.
I have very bad insomnia, ambien doesnt work, can anyone help me?

Also, i noticed if I stay up for up to 48 hours, the ambien will make me fall asleep, but it may just me being so tired in the first place, but when i did sleep on it, i had the most horrible and weird dreams imaginable, things i dont even think about... little bit scary
Added 12 Feb 2010:btw, i have been getting panic attacks since i was about 15, they were mild then, and got a lot owrst over the years is why i was put on the klonopins, the celexa is for depression, i started on 10mg and was moved to 20mg.... i dont notice the celexa, but other people do, and as far as the klonopins go, i feel that they work a little bit when im having an attack, but doesnt stop them...., if that helps the subject..., just looking for answers
Added 12 Feb 2010:and also btw, i was originally perscribed to vistaril to fall asleep and i feel all it did was make my tolerance to benedryl go up and never once worked.

I'm very sorry. I'm in the same boat. Three bad nights in a row, Stayed up later, took 10mg, takes almost an hour to work, and I get 3-3.5 hrs. I've been awake since 1 am. Help? The doctors will not help. I have gotten lectures from a doctor about "sleep hygiene." Taking warm milk and tryptophan. Deep-breathing exercises. They don't care and it's about doctor liability. No wonder people abuse and knock themselves out with alcohol.
Ambien is horrible. I tried it and felt more tired since I didn't get any REM sleep. Ambien is also very addicting. I use to work in a hospital and worked with patients addicted to ambien. I use to really struggle with sleeping. It was terrible. My md put me on Effexor. I used Xanax with it for a couple of weeks until the Effexor took full affect. Then stopped the xanax. It worked for me. Good luck, really. I know how horrible not sleeping feels. I watched more biographies on tv at 2am than I care to admit!
Ambien works for me but boy does it make me sleep walk.I see people not there and talk to them also, it was so wierd and i never experienced anything like that. I am on methadone for my r/a and therefore none of my doctors will give me any kind of sleep drug, i wish they would. now my sister who is also bi-polar manic depressant for the las 30yrs was just put on seroquil for both and sleep and she loves it. it might help you also. matter of fact, i never heard anyone say that it doesn't help them sleep.
I have been taking 10mg ambien for years. I do not see that it works that well. I talk in my sleep and wake myself up. I eat things I don't remember eating..do things I don't remember doing. I also take vicadin, celexa, welbutrin, narco, and others as well. I have taken these for so long I feel I am immune. BUT..without that little ambien I cannot fall asleep. But do I stay asleep? no.
Please be aware that current research says that we shouldn't be on Ambien for more than 2 months! I was on Ambien for 10+ years. In the past year a few weird things started to happen, purchases late at night, eating, talking while asleep and then making vile phone calls to family. None of this was intended or typical of me. So the effects can increase quickly. People have driven their cars under the Ambien effect and have killed other drivers!
Not being able to sleep has to be the next most awful feeling besides chronic pain.
My husband started taking trazodone a year ago for insomina, and this has really helped him tremdously. Ask your doctor about it.
My daughter was given ambien SR and it never worked for her, she also was taking the Benadryl and it didn't work either. So it's worth a try asking your doctor to change it. The answer regarding amytriptilynine or Elavil it's called also, work wonders for sleeping. I hope you soon get a restful nights sleep. My best to you, and God Bless!
hi i take trazodone to sleep. it is an old antidepresent that they dont use anymore because it made people sleep so now they use it as a sleep aid. i take 100mg at night to sleep and it is not addictive. ask your dr about trazodone i know it has helped me and i have been on it for 11yrs now. good luck to you.
I have taken a few things to help me sleep. Trazedone is the one that I have not found to be addictive. I get very vivid dreams and night sweats, but it helps me sleep:)
Maybe you could try the antidepressant amitriptyline, which is generic for elavil, it is one of the old time tri cyclics that help regulate sleep and wake patterns. It is inexpensive and worked well for me. All meds have side effects but the only ones i had with this med was dry mouth or throat and perhaps a craving for chocolate and I am not sure I can blame that on the medicine. It really can be a help with sleep,.
