I have been suffering from panic attacks and anxiety(some depression as well)for 20 + years. I have been diagnosed with major depression,bi-polar disorder, panic disorder, adhd, and generalized anxiety disorder over the last 20 + years.I have been prescribed xanax, tofranil, welbutrin, paxil, effexor and lastly klonopin. The only thing that ever seemed to help me was the klonopin(2mg 3 times a day) with an anti-depressant.The only problem was the klonopin ended up putting me in rehab(highly addictive). After getting clean and sober the anxiety of course returned with a vengence.I have(over the last 8 months)been put on welbutrin, effexor, celexa, lexapro, buspar, luvox, atirax.None of these drugs did anything but make me feel paranoid and crazy!Buspar is useless, atirax as well.I honestly think that ssri drugs are useless for anxiety treatment,in fact in my case the condition got horribly worse! The only thing that has ever healped is te benzos. There has to be something out there other than a benzo that works.I am at my absolute wits end.Anyone got ant ideas???
Is there anything out there other than benzos that help with panic attacks and depression?

hi there! i think i have the perfect medacine for your anxiety that also helps with depression i take it and it helps quite a bit. i also take xanax though but theres been times when i havent taken my xanax and because i also take effexor 150 mg capsules. my axiety is managed. i hope one day to be off xanax and only on effexor which is non narcotic and alot safer. but to answer the question i would say to give the effexor a try good luck
I have tried effexor... no luck.Made the anxiety worse. Thanks for the help though.
I have been on xanex for over ten years and it does not help me at all..I have asked to be taken off of it and put on something that would work for me..I also suffer from major depression and getting tired of trying so many medications and so many side effects..I need some help but no one seems to believe me when you have a mental problem..
I just got off the benzols after taken them for 17 yrs. They started having a reverse reaction on me and made my anxiety worse. I also had memory loss from them. The best thing I ever did was to discontinue them and exercise and learn coping skills. It's the hardedest thing I ever did, but am so happy I did it. I do take celexa now but it doesn't desensitize me. Valerine is a herb and not addictive and also helps sleep. I wish you luck.
Have you ever been on Seroquel... I'm on Klonipine as well, but Seroquel helps significantly!
I'm also on seroquel now to help with sleep. Was on clonazepam for years with no problem never had to increase my dose actually lowered it myself from 2mgs 4×d to 2mgs 2×d with no problem. Was taken off not by choice but PCP retired and trying to get another Dr to prescribe is almost impossible in this time when you can't read the news about a Dr getting busted for overprescribing or bulking Medicaid or Medicare. Drs are just too afraid of getting in trouble. Especially if you have to be on opioids for chronic pain. Have tried multiple drugs over the years and nothing has worked for me except clonazepam. No matter how bad your symptoms are good luck getting put on a benzo. Psychiatrist are really racking up the $$. Now. Mine does not even talk to me just asks what I want to be on. Of course not clonazepam. Such a joke what this witch hunt has come to.
