You can take milk - but not at the same time as your doxycyline.
Taking doxycycline with milk can decrease the amount of medication absorbed from your stomach.The calcium in the milk binds with the doxycycline to form a complex which cannot be absorbed.
To avoid this you need to take your milk, or coffee mate, at least 2 hours before or after taking your doxycyline - not at the same time.
