Since I've had both given to me at various times, it is my personal opinion that Dilaudid is stronger. It's what they always give me in Urgent care in injection form.
I can only tell you from the prospective of me using the medication, Dilaudid works on a diffeent part of the brain than what Percocet is I found Dilaudid to be stronger but what works with one pain patient does not do the job for another it does really take a lot of work to find the medication that woroks best for each individual patient, at some point in time a drug such as Dilaudid that has worked well then bang it happened to me I got to where even increasing the dose no go, it is an art and it's so different from one person to the other I can stress that enough, a lot of time and effort goes into controlling pain best wishes
i think a 4 mg dilaudid is as strong or equal to 4-6 7.5 mg percocet.good luck weenin down or off tho im about to do the same with methadone.
I get horrible migraines and when i can't take it anymore i end up in the hospital and when they injected dilaudid iv i started to feel relief within 20 minutes. The triptans just don't work for me unfortunately and thats all the dr's want to give me. Very frustrating-especially if u find something that helps relieve the pain.
Fiorinal #3 w/codeine works well for migraines FYI
IV DIlauted is WAYYYYYY different aaand wayyyyyy more powerful than dilauted in pill form! I have no idea why it is, Problly beause it goes right into the bloodstream, Buuut it is true!
Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) is more powerful than oxycodone. I have had it prescribed and injected by doctors and I have to say the the pain control is way more effective than a 10 milligram Percocet.
I agree with you, I took Dilaudid for about 2 years and then I caught a terrible fall, it caused some fractures and a back problem so they had to put me on something else but I agree with you that Dilaudid is more powerful than 10mg. percocet.
all prescription pain killers can be compared in effectiveness. because all drugs have slightly different affinity for the site at which they work in the body, they can be dosed at different milligrams. it is common for pain management doctors to switch between drugs and an equivalent amount of analgesia can be predicted. for instance 2mg of hydromorphone (dilaudid) is about equivalent to 10mg of oxycodone (percocet). pain management is a delicate process that is tailored to each patient by their physician.
i dont know were u got your comparison that 2 mg s of dilaudid is equivalent to 10 mg of percocet. Its is slightly more than a 5 mg percocet more in the range of 6 to 7 mg follow your chart fom there and figure 4 mg is slightly above 10 mg of percocet. Having neuropsy, fibromyalgia and a few pinched nerves in my neck with no chance of operations because of a ongoing heart condition, I am pretty knowledged in the whole opiate train and having also past kindney problems i am prescribed nothing with a tylonol base .As you stated all react differently with regards to the patiants tolerance including constapation and the fact that everyones system is different and what may work for one dosnt for another but the dosage comparison dosnt change.

Don't make me laugh you are way off dude. 4 mg of Hydromorphone dilaudid is equivelent to about 10 mg percocet 10-11 give or take also depends on the persons tolerance and metabolism. Differant drugs work on differant people differantly too for example I can take 2 10 mg oxycodone and feel absolutly NO relief I can take 1 10 mg Hydrocodone and feel atleast some relief 2 and I feel alot of relief. So in answer to your question Hydromorphone to Oxycodone is probably a little more than 2:1 mg for mg I could be wrong tho it has happened once before.
k spaz looked at the question wrong thought we were lookin at .4 thus the throw off also to the comment about intravenus bein stronger well no kidden straight into the blood stream instaed of ingestead were more ends up in the body fat explains that but in my case dilaudid dosnt do much for me compared to oxycodone or oxycotin as was said different people have different reactions hell i go crazy on ativan wich in most cases is used for the exact opposite reason but give me a cpl mg of that and im outta my mind halucinaton and thinkin im the hulk course i also drop in body temp wen im sick rather than run a fever so im a extreme case
don't take it personally I just found a golden oppertunity to be a smart ass to someone and I am not giving that up for nothin or nobody. Also Oxycodone to morphine is about 1.5:1 respectivly just some useless information so Hydromorphone to morphine 1:5 oxycodone to morphine 1.5:1 so divide 4 by 1.5 and you'll get the conversion to oxycodone. Most things are compared to morphine I think its the standerd probably because the body produces morphine naturally.
Coming from the guy who can't even spell...
I have a great way to do a comparison to see which pain medication is stronger. Take your 30mg of Percocet and wait for effects. Let Percocet wear off and wait 4 days. Then take 30mg of Dilaudid. Now compare and see which is stronger. Lol! Oh wait, you can't compare cause you'd be dead! Sorry for sarcasm lol but that's how I roll. Now I can't speak for anyone else because everyone is different. Different weights, different tolerance and so on. As a pain doctor and pain patient I can tell you from my perspective that Dilaudid is a stronger pain medication depending on route of entry. Percocet makes me very sick no matter what mg I take. I can take 4mg Dilaudid orally and doesn't effect me at all in any way. I can take 4mg Dilaudid IV and it puts me on my rear lol. Don't know if this helps you or not but hope you can find some relief. Pain management is a tricky business.
I was in the ER yesterday for severe pain on the right side. I was given Diluadid through IV. I helped for a while. They sent me home with 2mgs of same medication. The pills don't work for me at all. It is doing nothing for my pain. I pick up a new script for Percocet 10 mgs tomorrow. I'm really hoping that works. Can't see the GI doc til Monday. If still in pain, I probably need to go back to ER.
I had major surgery last week. While in the hospital, I was given percocet 2.325 every 6-8 hours. At home I am taking dilaudid 2 mg every 4-6 hours. The percocet helped with the pain 80% better.
