If you were prescribed these medications together by the same Dr. then you should be following their instructions. Personally I take mine at the same time, but they’re both relatively low doses and my Dr manages both of my prescriptions.
If you’re only taking Percocet occasionally, then it would be much safer to space them apart at least 2-3 hours until you are familiar with how each medication affects you. Depending on the dosage of each you could run into serious issues.
Hi, Mama!
"Using narcotic pain or cough medications together with other medications that also cause central nervous system depression such as gabapentin can lead to serious side effects including respiratory distress, coma, and even death. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications."
The problem is that Percocet can remain in your system for up to 20 hours or more in some cases so spacing the meds may not be possible. If your doctor has prescribed both medications they may have determined that the benefit outweighs the risk. The combination should only be taken under a doctor's supervision and only at the dosages prescribed.
You can take your Gab & Percocet @ the same time. I've done this for years. Gab TID 600mg & Percocet every 6 hours. I take my 1st Gabapentin with 2, 5/325 Percocet 1st thing in the morning. It's what helps me put one foot in front of the other and numbs (not literally) my pain so I can start my day. Thats how it works for me. Please check with your prescribing physician for his advice. What works best for others may not be the best thing for you. Best of luck!
