You have be a documented chronic pain patient for a doctor to even think of prescribing methadone. So I doubt you would be able to. I am a chronic pain/addict and I can't get a doctor to order it. I'm luck though as my drug plan covers the methadone (I pay for it and get back 90%, I think). If you've been on methadone a long time say 10-15 tears and can prove you've been clean then your family doctor could prescribe it but again you have to have chronic pain. Doctors have to be licensed to prescribe methadone for addiction. A family doctor cannot legally prescribe it for addiction but can for pain...
I would love to know what provider covers methadone maintenance not a single prescription. Big difference. I guess people stay on other pain maintenance though. I know that if you can get on Medicaid, the clinic can pay for it that way. Of course, it isn't covered itself, but what they do is bill medicaid for an hour of "treatment" (ie, counseling) and apply that towards the meds. I don't know if they are supposed to, but bless 'em for helping those that need it in a pinch. I wish I could get Medicaid.
hi, if you go to a psychiatric doc they can write for pain management also if they get a referral from a family doc. and say you were in a state of depression from pain. but that chris is definitely right sub is the way of the future. insurance company everywhere are starting to except people on sub.but the methadone has that bad stigma, drug addicts gave it.
you are right about the stigma associated with methodone. People naturally assume you are trying to come off of heroin.
thank you :)
If you don't mind can I ask what type of insurance you're on? I've searched and have yet to find any that would give anything back let alone cover it.
