I have been on methadone for over 25 years for pain because of the amount of pain all the other pain meds would not do it for me because having to take them every day you get a tolerance to it so they switch me to methadone. After many years being on it Tennessee had a crack down on pain meds then I was up the creek without a paddle so to speak. Now I am looking for a pain management doctor that will prescribe methadone. Also in about one year from now my wife daughter and I are talking about going to the Philippines to stay for several months and need a doctor to prescribe methadone while being in the Philippines so if anyone knows a doctor that can help me it would be a blessing thank you from Danny
I'm not sure about getting from a private doctor. I've been going to the clinic for about 5 months now. If you don't have Medicaid, apply for it. If you do have Medicaid (I know this because I have it) it's free. But not only is it free, but you'll get a "gas card". They actually reimburse you for the gas that you have to use to get to the clinic. For me, my roundtrip is 8 miles in total. And I get $6 a day. So if you don't have Medicaid I highly suggest you at least apply for it. It never hurts to try. Buuuutttt I JUST seen that you posted this literally a DECADE ago
A regular physician cannot prescribe or write a prescription for methadone in liquid form, in the state of Texas. A pain management physician may write a prescription for methadone in 10mg tablet form for so many tablets, without the patient being referred to a methadone clinic.
if you have insurance it should pay for the clinic... even if its out of network
Pretty much impossible. Unless your a celebrity.
It is not used first and doctors have to be careful because it has a long and variable half-life. This can cause an od cause it can build up in your system. You will not likely get it from a GP, and it will not be the first from a pain doc either. Mine only went there when fentanyl stopped working. She gave it to me because the long half life makes it good for long term relief and because it helps with withdrawals when stopping another opioid.
I was going to a dr. In Florence SC. Who prescribed me 180 40mg tabs and 240 10mg tabs. Call me at 843 506 2600 and I'll give u his name and number... Kevin
I just read ur message I live in Delaware would that make a difference
Thanks
Good
Very hard... Most docs (like 99%) will shoot ya down the second they hear recovery most docs that can prescribe methadone only do so for pain and almost never for recovery... So unless u have a slipped disk or a medal plate your head your gonna need a pocket full of luck (I don't mean to sound harsh or like a jerk but I went through a similar situation, i worked down from 100mgs of methadone to right around 11mgs and got into a major accident and they stuck me on a ton of pain meds and am right now working all over again at tryin to ween down off meds, and it sucks!)
My only advice is be honest with your doc. He or she can give you the best advice. I get mine thru medicaid for free but I will look to find Answers for u both...
Hi There, I am a M.D. I am an ER Physician, I am one of the Dr's who admits patients that are going through withdrawal whether it's from opiates or benzo's, really any drug. I read some of your testimonials regarding Methadone. To answer some of your questions off the top of my head, um... you do not need a really a specific doctor to write for Methadone. It's actually one of the cheapest drugs to get filled at your local pharmacy's! I would advise you to be totally honest about everything with this doctor b/c once you start on this medicine, you don't want to abruptly quite! Don't give that M.D. one reason to cut you from their practice! My college roomate had some trouble with Dilaudid a few years back and I write him 90 pills /month of Methadone and without insurance it cost approx $22 each month for 90 20mg script. I hope this finds you well! Take care, Dr. Trevor
Where r u Dr. Trevor??? I was in pain management since 16 yrs old for being born with a birth defect and having multiple surgeries. I still hav lots of problems and pain. well recently, I lost my insurance and cannot see my pain management dr. anymore. my family dr. at the time wouldnt help me. so i ended up on medicaid and there r no dr.s 4 pain mngmt. in nj. so i ended up on methadone clinic taking 80 mg a day. im 28 now so ive been on meds a long time. Dr.s dont care if ur poor. i am a nursing student and do not take any other meds. i want to find a private Dr. to prescribe me the medication. All my Dr.s know I'm on it but dont want to be involved. I have a life and dont want to hav to go to a clinic with druggies. Any suggestions???
And this ladies and gentleman is why you get into med school lol. Yeah ol' Jim got in trouble with some bath salts... badda bing badda boom, he's back on the Slopes in Aspen lol. Jk, that's cool you could help him...
ANY ADVICE? Yeah me and my husband have been going to a methadone clinic for a few years now and yeah it helped straightn our life out but we're never going to have anything as long as we're paying $640 a month on fukin methadone ,working and paying for methadone, so I've been wanting to switch to suboxone (i think) cuz we have insurance, but I've gota find a doctor ,which i found one right in my town but he has a waiting list so thats out, and then the switch from methadone to suboxone thats not fun cuz i heard u have to get down to at least 30mg of methdne and i'm on 90mg so i dunno I.m tires of spending all my money on METHADONE.
Hey there I've never been on methadone but I used to be on suboxone and it completely turned my life around and I think its worth considering. I paid for my suboxone out of pocket because I had no insurance it was about $5 a pill but your insurance might pay for it. One thing I wish I would've known sooner is that the drug manufacturer (Reckitt Benckiser)has a grant program where you can get your suboxone for free through them but your doc has to set it up for you and there are limited grants per doctor. A friend of mine(also had no insurance) got a grant and was getting 90 a month for free which is close to $500 worth from a pharmacy. His grant lasted a year and once it expired he couldn't afford it so his doctor prescribed subutex(same thing without naloxone) which there is a generic for and it was way cheaper.
I think you can re-apply for the grant but his doc was comfortable prescribing subutex because of how well he had been doing and so he could give somebody else the grant instead. One other thing thats good about suboxone/subutex is that a doctor can call it into a pharmacy so you don't have to have a written script like you do with methadone. After I had been on it a while I didn't have to see my doc as much when I needed a script he just called it in for me. Good luck with that I hope some of this info helped...
hi jones, i gotta agree with chris, when she says try subutex or suboxone. my insurance pays for my doctor, counseling and medications. they are only too happy to get me off morphine "kadian"400 mg 2x a day it costs way more than suboxone and methadone i told my pain management doctor to take that stuff himself. the kadian cost them 1844.00 dollors a month. my insurance company was the ones who told me to go to the doctor who messed my knees up. get off that methadone if only to not look like an addict. they have offered me methadone foe 2 years now, i keep telling them the same thing.you gotta find a pain management clinic not a meth clinic. up here in pa the clinics will pay for sub but not for methadone. in pa in the pharmacy methadone costs 11cents for a ten mg pill. pain / management tells me you can't be on methadone when you start. but they can put you on it if and when your insurance co gets tired of paying for suboxone. but then there is always generic subutex.
These pharmaceutical companies... what a racket they run! Can a psychiatrist actually write a script or just a referral??
Rather than trying to find a doctor to prescribe methadone, see if he can legally prescribe Buprenorphine. The Affinity (drug molecules binding with receptors, like a magnetic attraction) this drug will actually keep methadone, heroin, oxycontin, etc. out of the receptors and block them. Just my opinion. Worth a chat with your doctor. Good luck to you!
Methadone also does the same thing. The methadone molecule is huge by comparison and will not be knocked off by any opiate/opioid which is why it works so well with the right addict. Buprenorphine is a partial antagonist. The buprenorphine molecule does have a high affinity to your receptors and is almost impossible to knock off. So these two drugs are used for addiction recovery, methadone is really for life if you want to get down to it. If you're on methadone and you're nodding out or sitting around doing nothing then this drug is far to strong for you and you should try buprenorphine. There are way to many people on methadone that were put on it for the wrong reasons or the doctors did not evaluate the patient well enough.
Buprenorphine is a great drug to use for detox but it can also be used for maintenance. So really look into these drugs and to be truthful most people will do fine on buprenorphine...
I learned this years ago Costco pharmacy beats anyone's prices and u don't have to b a member!
