Zanaflex or Gabapentin? Take a wild guess, use knowledge, flip a coin, or do eenie meanie miny mo. (That looks spelled incorrectly)
I seem to get two hours of sleep and WHAM, some weird dream/nightmare awakens me, so now I have the oh so fun problem of insomnia again!
Thank you for any opinions, guesses or just chatter!!
Lara
Out of these two medications, what possibly could be causing vivid dreams or nightmares?

P.S. 'Tis now 2:14am and I shall watch some bad telly and go to bed at 5:00am, ya know, old reruns of Saturday Night Live, or Divorce Court. Maybe a good old slasher film will be on tonight? One can only hope!
Thank you all !!

You are funny! It sucks when you can't sleep.I don't know anything about those drugs but I take the CR Ambien every night otherwise I will not sleep and I have to be at work by 7:30..
Hi outsidesue,
Yes, I can be amusing, or funny... but as my brother's always said "Lara, you are funny, but don't worry, looks aren't everything"! The nerve of those boys!!
Hi all, I didn't do a slow taper as I said I would, just switched back to a couple flexeril a day. Not having any WD issues off of Zanaflex.
SO disappointed, as Zanaflex afforded great pain relief, along with my other meds! But I shall prevail, and keep being a guinea pig! Trying what I can try to mitigate the pain. (Mary, I dug around and found my flexeril, yay!!)
Hope everyone has a great friday the 13th, tis a day for good luck!!
Lara
xx
Good for you, but did you have to remind me it was Friday the 13th! Now I'll have to stay in all day or slip on the ice & break something again... Mary
(and it won't be my toilet tank this time)
Mary, STAY HOME!!! lol
I am not goin anywhere today! Home it is! All stockeds up & everything. Hot bath & jammie day... Mary
I vote for Zanaflex for sure. And oh dear Lara... you're such a hoot! We love ya. Ruth
Right back at you Ruthie!!
i vote for zanaflex
Good morning gang! My hubby takes gabepentin & he doesn't dream at all, but every one is different . I would also vote for the Zanaflex, but who knows for sure. you may have to stop one at a time to see which is the culprit. You have received good advice so far, & I'll bet you are in bed snoring away right now! Oh & it's eenie meenie minnie mo, for future reference! Ha! Sleep well my friend, Lord knows you need it. If you are up email me kiddo. Love ya, Mary
Hey nutball, thanks for the spelling correction!! I think it's the zanaflex too, gonna taper off of it, after reading Laurie's post, who would want to take that stuff? How do I miss these side effects in the pharmacy print outs? I've no idea!!!
Thank you all !!
Lara
I always look them up here on the site first!
Lara, on the consumer leaflets that accompany the medication, it's only a partial list of side effects. All the ones that I've ever seen always say this is a partial list & to consult your doctor for others. Plus, those are just the effects that are known. What if they tested ME for instance in one of their drug trials? Likely to run away screaming! HA HA HA HA
You're not STILL awake, are you?
Love Wendy :)
It's 3:45 PM here, and I am peeling my mind off the ceiling and my body off the floor. In a few hours I'll have breakfast and try to remember what I was "supposed" to do today, I know there are really really important things I will persecute myself for not doing, but thats later after I wake up and it's time to go to bed. Is it Spring yet??? mindy
Poor mindy!! I don't think the crocuses will be showing soon.
Don't beat yourself up if you didn't get anything done today, winter sucks!!
We shouldn't be required to do ANYTHING at this time of year, except sleep.
Hybernate perhaps?
Lara

I had all my perrennials up 3 inches yesterday when it was 60 degrees,. Now it's 15 with windchill of 15 below, & snow drifting everywhere! Winter is here folks! Mary
Hi Mrs. Wendy, I actually don't always want to know all the horrid side effects. The reason for this is that I'm afraid to read about all the scary stuff, I just may develop one of the bad reactions by the power of suggestion! So, I hand the print out to Mr. Sweet Lemon and have him read it, but that genius (he IS incredibly smart, truly) has NO clue about medications, the only things he has had to take are antibiotics and a barf pill during his wee cancer scare, so I stay ignorant on purpose!!
But I think I may need to get my head out of the sand (oh you all thought I was going to name a different place where I've put my head, didn't you?)
and research my meds right here, like you guys all do! Mary researches Everything, so she is never surprised! (smarty pants)
Thank you for your input Wendy!!
Lara
xx
Mary, don't remind us that winter is here!! (as if I can ignore all the snow coming down!!) We are getting what you had yesterday right now. (did that sentence make ANY sense?)
Let's all meet in Florida? Any takers? Mary, you can ride with me, or better yet we can all just fly there!! I'm game!!!
Lara
I'm game! Lets go! Too bad my uncles $5million dollar condo got sold. It was in Naples right on the east coast! Dang!Could have had a ball there... Mary
Girls,come on down!xo c
C, you said it... NO, you wrote it, even worse!! I'm on my way to the airport, I'll grab Mary on my way (she's a bit out of my way, but worth every mile) we will have fun in the sun!!
I dare you! Xo c
I takeGabapentin 300. I have burning legs and it was bad. This has calm it down I would say 90 percent. Side effects sleep strang hours like I am now up at 2: 45 am. Better to get up and walk then lay there. I do have very involved dreams not to bad but always glad to wake up and no they are not true. I do have problem with eyes'' but my moods are just opposite of others I am very calm an happy so far no depression although I did feel little drunk first few pills and told my friend I was quite happy to go. Ha Later I told her I am not going anywhere it was just in the moment I was so calm about it. Not suicide just like if it was my time no big deal. All in all this is not a bad drug and very glad burning is less in legs. Have no idea what that is about. Also have burning tongue for years no doctor or dentist have a clue I just live with that. Sorry some people feel no relief.
Well I cannot add anything to the side effects, but I hope you are sleeping rite now.if not,let me,us know.some of those warnings are a bit scary... but knowing you you'll kick this in the butt and move on to the next challenge ... xoxo,c
Hi C,
I'd love to know who gave you the TD!! GRRR! Maybe it was an accident?
Hope so!
Love,
Lara
Hi sweetie, just saw that... it's my first!let's celebrate! Xo
I hear some people that post with their phone accidently do that, but they could have the courage to say so for Petes sake! You didn't deserve a TD I will go back in & give you another TU to obliterate it!!! Mary
I wuv you Mary!xo c
me to too you!!! Mary
Hi, if you have started the gabapentin recently it is likely that this could be the cause. I have cut and pasted some of the possible side effects which could be contributing to your lack of sleep and vivid dreams;
behavior changes; confusion; memory problems; new or worsening mental or mood changes (eg, depression, agitation, anxiety, restlessness, inability to sit still); new or worsening trouble sleeping; suicidal thoughts or actions;
There is a slight interaction risk between the gabapentin and zanaflex so if these symptoms continue it might be something to look at? It's not something to be majorly worried about though.
Hopefully the symptoms will wear off with time!
Hi Delila,
I forgot to thank you!! Sorry bout that my friend, so... thank you!!
Lara
Yeppers, I vote for Zanaflex as well. According to the prescribing info, I found the following:
Nervous System:
Frequent: Depression, anxiety, paresthesia
Infrequent: Tremor, emotional lability, convulsion, paralysis, thinking abnormal, vertigo, abnormal dreams, agitation, depersonalization, euphoria, migraine, stupor, dysautonomia, neuralgia
Rare: Dementia, hemiplegia, neuropathy
Sweets, just be aware that you have to taper off Zanaflex if you are going to stop taking it.
Laurie
A taper it shall be Laurie, thank you! I don't think I like any of those side effects! SCARY!!
Hey Lara girl! I'll vote for Zanaflex because one of the infrequent side effects is abnormal dreams.
Also, it's at the end of the alphabet. HA HA HA HA
Perhaps you might want to challenge me to a game on Pogo right now?
A warm bath with epsom salts could help to make you relaxed enough to sleep.
Love your friend, Wendy :)
W, you are on a roll this morning!! I MUST seek out some sleep, perchance to dream, perchance to nightmare, but the Pogo sounds like fun!!
Yet if we got involved in that, you KNOW we'd be up all night/morning long, don't you agree?
Love,
Lara (You are a scream gurl !!)
Ihave no personal knowledge of either drug. Unless they specifically require taking at supper or betime swith to morning.
As a general statement anti-depressants and opiates have caused me serious sleep problems.
Best wishes,
Gabapentin effects brain function, so it is probably your culprit.
