... have been on Pristiq for 8 mo. It has helped so much with my pain issues I do not want to go off. This is my only newer med. I have been to dentist, ENT and Gastro drs. I do not want to go off since this drug has helped with burning pain a great deal. Any thoughts would be very appreciated as my food tastes off. THANKS!!
Has anyone had taste issues on 50mg Pristiq? I have a soapy, salty taste?

I started Pristiq in May 2019. I have a cool feel to my tongue and roof of mouth. It's like someone took a coolant salve and wiped it on my tongue. My food tastes are way off as they are not what I know them to be. It makes me not want to eat. Appetite is down. It did not start right away rather perhaps May of 2020. It has gotten worse. Liquids taste off and so do most foods including salad dressings. The weirder part is my tongue and roof of mouth having this cooling feeling 24/7.
Did this go away for you ???
I looked up side effects on Drugs A to Z and I did not see that being one. Maybe you should consult your physician. I wish you luck.. Sorry I could not have been more helpful..
Dear Kimmie: Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you. You are very kind to look this up for me. Note that I consulted with my psy. when these symptoms first began several months ago. She advised my problem is not listed in side effects. I am wondering if I just have dry mouth (even thou I drink so much water) and the effect is salty taste. I have had an endoscopy and been to an ENT with no problems here. Problematic because food does not taste the same. Where do I go next??? This med. has helped alot for my issues and I am not looking forward to switching meds issues. Thx again for your help. Nothing is ever simple, right?
If life were simple we wouldn't need doctors or this web site right? Just trying to cheer you up. I have a weird since of humor. lol. That is just strange to have a salty taste all of a sudden. Did it just start once you took the new meds? Or have you had any other vitamins or meds? Some of us just have different reactions I guess. Well, good luck and all the best.
Hi again: You know, this taste thing is one of those "things" that there is no obvious, easy answer for. However I wonder, if Pritiq is a newer drug, how does your psy, or any dr. know what side effects might arise for folks? I suppose I will not know unless I go off of it and that will not be a party. (I like your sense of humor!!) I honestly am doing so much better pain wise that I am not willing to chance it. Who cares if a glass of red wine tastes like cough syrup!
This all started at the beginning of the summer with a burning, irritated feeling in my mouth, hence the acid investigation. Then it advanced to tasting like salt. My dentist who I think is very smart has the dry mouth idea. I am just a person who likes black and white answers.
Another idea is hormones. I am 56 and many things are drier and out of whack.
This web site is VERY impressive and organized. I have never seen one like this!!!
Very nice of you to reply since I have know idea what that medication is for anymore..haha. I too am 54yrs old and have gone through a host of weird things I have never experienced. Those hot flashes are the pitts. I hate that the worst. I am sure we will make it through. Our elders did an so on. You know there is nothing worse than chronic pain. That is what I suffer from the most. I absolutley(sp) hate it. I can take a lot and have been through a lot. But I am a baby when it comes to pain. Anyway I wish you good luck and I hope you find the answers your looking for. thanks again Kim
I just started on Pristiq as a supplemental antidepressant several days ago and, like you, I've found that my taste has mysteriously and horribly changed! But I'm not sure if it's the Pristiq. Foods taste bitter, stringent, tart, tangy, chemical, not right; Shrimp tasted like paper, cocktail sauce like chemicals; I took a sip of soda and wanted to spit it out. I love tiramisu, but it tasted funny, so I gave it to my daughter who gratefully gobbled it up! Nothing I eat tastes right. Nothing I eat tastes good. I'm going to see my neurologist tomorrow. I pray he has the answers. Did You ever resolve your taste issues?
I have been on Pristiq for a month I am having burning tongue and lips and terrible salty taste. I know it's the pristiq because I could not get to the pharmacy and was out for a week and did not have the symptoms. Once I started back the symptoms were back. I will not continue this it is not worth it.
