I am 55 years old and very active, walking going to gym a couple of times a week. Recently I started on lisinopril for high blood pressure, 10 mgs. I have gained 10 pounds in a month, and feel concerned.
Has anyone experienced weight gain from lisinopril 10 mgs?

I believe if you are using a salt substitute and or eating a lot of foods high in potassium it could cause this. Lisinopril can increase your potassium levels. It has been a long time since you asked question. I realize you surely no longer need an answer. Someone else might though. I would ask my doctor for a low dose diuretic that is not potassium sparing. I am on a generic for Maxzide diuretic. It is a potassium sparing diuretic. Been on it for several years. Maxzide controlled my blood pressure. Until this past year at 58 years young. BP is only close to normal range 1st thing in morning. BP seems to slowly climb as day goes on. My doctor just this past week put me on 10mg of Lisinopril as well. I want to be able to use salt substitutes safely. Monday I am going to call Dr. And request he change my diuretic from Maxzide to one that is strictly a thiazide diuretic.
I take amiloride for high blood pressure and it also contains a diuretic.
When I first started taking it, i dropped 30 pounds in 3 months! I was definitely bloated. Ask you Doctor
Yes, I am a 43 year old female and active as well. I gained 7 pounds after I started taking it. I needed to drop a few pounds for a wedding and actually had to stop taking it ( I monitored my numbers of course). Would love to hear if anyone else is having issues.
I have been on this for over a year, I have gained over 20 pounds & I work out & mostly eat healthy. I've also had loss of voice at days end as if I have laryngitis, had to go to an Ent to make sure I did not have throats cancer, very disappointed my primary doctor did not catch this!
I do not know what we are going to do. I have taken lispinerol (sp?) and am now taking metoprolol. I have gone from 109 lbs to 139+ in less than a year. Not gonna happen!! I have increased my exercise, although I hardly eat, feel exhausted/fatigued. For the past three days, I have monitored my pressure about every 2 hrs, it is all over the place... never a normal 120/80 or close, always upwards. I discussed with my cardiologist my symptoms: fatigue (I work PT and am 67 years old), and my weight gain, her reply... get more exercise. Simply because I do work, and am fatigued, she is cutting my dose 1/2. There must be a better choice. I refuse to be a fat old lady with high BP (stuff ain't working!!) just packing on pounds. Perhaps this would be a great opportunity to explore an answer for people with anemia. I know... find a better Doc. Please note, I am 67 and have only gained this weight in the past year... weight has always been an average of 100-115. I did not simply turn 67 and start pigging out :) Good luck and health to all.
Both weight loss and weight gain have been reported as side effects of Lisinopril.

I am 53 years old and recently started taking Lisinopril and have gained weight around my waist, it is exstreamly uncomfortable. I've also experienced stomach pain and sickness every morning. Should I be concerned??
I am SO glad I found this forum!! I've been beating myself up the last few months trying to figure out why I've gained almost 15 pounds in 3 MONTHS. I'm 38, very active with two jobs, I go to the gym approximately 4-6 times per week, eat okay for the most part yet I found myself gaining and gaining with each month that passed. Three months ago I started taking Lisinopril because I was about to undergo an elective surgery. The surgeon would not operate on me unless my BP was under control. I thought nothing of it and agreed to start taking the medication. Well, this morning I had an AH HA moment when I put the timeline together with my weight gain and I am just dumbfounded it took me this long to figure it out! I am going to get off of this medication and start drinking hibiscus tea... crossing my fingers the weight comes off.
I was put on this because of kidney disease, I took it one night and had to get up to use the bathroom and got so dizzy I passed out and hit my head. Ended up getting a concussion. I never took it again.
