I have taken Nexium 40 mgs 2 twice at day, morning and night, I don't feel any better, I have to talk to my doctor to change medication. It is very frustrating to feel the burning with pain in the stomach and no been able to drink coffee nor eat spicy food.
There are many different ppi's to choose from and some people have to keep switching back and forth till it works. I had to take famotidine 3 separate times before it started to work . If you feel the burn get some liquid anti acid or off brand tums . You can take al some time till poi' s work right
I really appreciate your response. I've been on Pepcid for years until this last year. I thought PPI's were the silver bullet... but I just can't find the right combination! Nexium hurts my stomach and Omeprazole isn't working. I don't want to take more than 40mg (twice the standard dose) a day... worried about bone loss. I'm adjusting my diet. I hate feeling the burn in my chest and back area. If I feel it, that means its damaging something. I would like one day where I could eat what I want without feeling pain. Thanks for listening:)
Go back to Pepcid try 40mg twice a day then back down or try nizitidine (axid ) or achipex or both
One other thing I forgot to mention necking is the big brother to omeprazole they are so closely related as medicines it's no wonder that Nexium does not work for young achipex does not work for you try Prevacid or pantaprozole I hope you find relief
Thank you Dan. That's a good suggestion and I may just try that!
I have been on Nexium for many years and a few weeks ago tried to come off of them after reading about awful side effects ! All my symptoms have come back with avengence so GP started me back on 20ng twice per day and after 4 weeks I have still got really bad symptoms i'm worried now as GP has booked me in for endoscopy!
Hi Rockinro, I've had GERD for about 30 years. It can be very painful at times, I know. Through the years, doctors have given me different meds, but Protonix (pantoprazole) works best for me. I take 40mg every morning. If I get stressed or get stupid and eat spicy food, I take Omeprazole at night. I have not developed esophageal cancer. I did form a lesion on my larynx because of the reflux, but it was removed and no more issues. I've found that when the reflux is causing pain, it causes my stomach and esophagus to spasm. Ouch! I lay on the floor with a pillow doubled under my belly. The counter-pressure seems to relax the spasms. Perhaps that will work for you, as well. Have you had an EGD (endoscopic exam)? That will tell if you have any esophageal erosion from the reflux and your meds can be changed or adjusted accordingly. Best wishes to you!
Thank you so much! My doc told me to try Omeprazole 20mg in the am and pm but to switch off occasionally and take Nexium. I didn't realize her samples were 40 mg. So tummy problems too! I wake up with reflux in my chest, back and breasts! I'm going to take your suggestion and ask for an endoscopy. I haven't had one in a couple of years and am really stressing over this! I am overweight but eat low fat, low acidic, no diet sodas and no late night eating. My last vice is my tiny cup if coffee in the am. I guess I should give that up too! Thank you for just listening to me!:) I'm not usually a complainer but just feel so discouraged!
