How long before"gabapentin" eases pain?

Wow only 8 years later on my reply but yes it was done so were for my restless legs lower back pain and even upper back, more so the necks bottom

Hi I am also new to this, suffering severe nerve pain in the back of my head the doctor thinks it occipital neuralgia, worst pain of my life making me so depressed, currently only on 400g at night of gabapentin as taking through the day makes me sleepy and can’t function at work, to be honest the gabapentin or naproxen help at all so a bit frustrated as what to do tried many others all with sedating effects also, any advice on what to do or how much to take before feeling any affect from gabapentin, thanks

I am new to this. My daughter, 17, has just been diagnosed with Complex chronic pain syndrome, with fibromyalgia. she is taking gabapentin 100mg 2x a day. We haven't seen any results yet. Good Luck with your condition.

Hi. I've been suffering horrendous pain / tingling/ numbness etcfrom my R buttock to my toes due to chronic sciatica. This was caused by herniating a disc in my lower back on two occasions.
I had never experienced pain like it!! Couldn't sleep, couldn't sit, couldn't drive etc etc.
I was prescribed gabapentin, tramadol and solpadol by my doctor.
I take max dose of gabapentin now and rarely need to take the others.
I don't suffer any pain now... until the gaba begins to wear off!!!
As long as I take the pills I'm free of pain almost completely.
My MRI results came through and I'm told that I need an operation as I have nerve root compression caused by large paracentral disc.
The answer to the question - does gabapentin work? ... for me absolutely!
Problem is tiredness. I'm also concerned about the damage if any that taking such high doses of gabapentin is doing to me (3600mg/day).
Anyone know the answer to that?

I am now taking gabapentin after a cocktail of many other drugside and a epidermal. I understand the pain being so horrific you just want to give up. Gabapentin seems to be keeping the pain at bay but for some reason it's making me feel nauseated like I have traded 1prob for another.

I started using gabapentin on the 21stDec 2016 Initially the results were impressive . i was pain free most of the time . Before that I had been taking 100 mg morphine per day along with 20mg slow release morning and night . Now on the 11th Feb I am taking 10 gabapentin per day and 20 mg slow release morphine per day and it's not really working .I can still go for a slow walk daily a distance of 900 meters (Measured on Google Earth)and am able to potter around in the garden but by the end of the day I am in agony . I am pretty disappointed as the start was so promising .I asked the doc for painkillers other than morphine but he said they would have adverse affects on me as would anti-inflammatories .So it's back to square one . I'll still keep taking the Gab. until something better or new comes along . I am booked in to see a neurosurgeon but that will take months . Some days the back pain is so bad I just want it to end and be done with it .no one is supposed to be in so much pain for so long .I dont know what to do

I have been on gababentin for one year and has worked wonders for sleeping my legs have calmed down as for combination of other drugs taken with it no problems,trazodone,cyclobenzaprine,and naprosyn. I have nerve damage and its working. I wonder sometimes if I am taking a bad combination? But its working

I use to take lyrica 75mg in the morning and 125mg at night.It helped me alot with pain in my hand but it took about 3 weeks before I started feeling any relief and after 4 months my doctor said i shouldn't take it for along period of time and he withdrew me off of it so quickley that I was real sick and had to increase my percocet from 5-325 to 7.5-325,I really miss taking it because it helped alot withn pain and sleep. I cannot give a time frame, but the gabapentin works well for me. I take 3 pills daily along with tramadol. I found that tramadol does cause deprression so I cut tram. back from 6 pills to 4 daily. The combo. has eased my pain from neuropathy in my feet (both). Prozac seems to be working fairly well for the depression, and I cannot cut my pain meds back any further and function daily. Hope this info helps someone.

Hi tinselfeet, I was on Lyrica at first, I was comblaing to my oain doctor that mt figers were numb on my left hand, then it stared to feel like my hand was stung by a whole bees nest! I have a prescription for Gabapentin (which is in the same) catorgory as Lryrica. I only took the Lyrica for about five days before I felf relief. I still had the numbness and it makes me nuts! It happens to be that it is in my left hand, of course I am left handed. I would say to give it a little more time. My pm. dr. wants me to wear socks to bed and put sneakers on at night when I go to the bathroom. I can empathize with you, I do have a chronic pain problem, but a regular or even strong narcotic med. does not touch The weird sensations and burning feeling. best of luck. Fall Queen

Gabapentin is used for: Treating seizures associated with epilepsy. It may also be used for treating nerve pain associated with herpes zoster (shingles) infection (postherpetic neuralgia). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. I hope this helps. AK
