My daughter has had a recurring sore throat since her dosage of fluoxetine was raised in the fall. She has been tested for mono three times and told that she just has a virus or some sort. Her psychiatrist says that it could not be caused by the fluoxetine. Her throat has hurt for four weeks now. Not sure what to do.
Can fluoxetine cause a sore throat?

These are serious side effects, you must call her Dr. asap:
severe skin reaction - fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.

Thank you for your response! Of those side effects listed, she only has the sore throat. I'm not sure why her psychiatrist would dismiss this since it is listed as a possible side effect! I am wondering if there are others who have experienced this?

I have been on Prozac 10mg one a day for a little over two weeks now and i have had a constant sore/dry throat since taking this. I have read other blogs where a lot of others had experience this as well while taking prozac. they did say it will stop over time so i will give it a couple more weeks. It is very annoying.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing the sore throat too. Trying out different meds takes so long and takes such a toll. My daughter found relief by taking Claritin. Eventually she switched to Celexa because she was feeling fatigued as well, and that never went away. But the sore throat did clear up. I hope Claritin might be something that works for you too.
