My doc upped my dose and ever since then I've had stomach pain. YET, I took an Ibuprofen Tuesday night, and that stuff tears up my tummy! Just wonder if anyone else has this, or am I an odd duck (don't answer THAT part, guys! lol) Or could it be from Zanaflex? I am playing musical muscle relaxers so I don't become dependant on any of them.
Thanks gang,
Lara

Hey there Sweet Pea,
I am taking 300 mg twice a day for nerve pain. My arms get numb and it wakes me up from a coma.
I never noticed any stomach pain, that only happens when I take magnesium citrate for perceived constipation from the Suboxone. Oh my, does my tummy hurt then, but it blasts any poop out really fast. Usually it's just my OCD kicking in. I forget when I pooped last and am afraid I have a bowel obstruction. Oh well... you know how crazy people are.
Love ya and peace out,
Laura
Thanks for the giggle, my favourite hippie!!

Abdominal pain is a side effect of gabapentin along with a whole assortment of other digestive issues like ulcers, IBS, hiatal hernia (these are rare but stomach pain is more common) and others.Dont take Maalox or any other antacids because it interferes with absorption. Omeprazole IS a proton pump inhibitor (not and antacid) so you are on one too! (and you didnt even know it huh?) If this were an issue with acid, the omeprazole should have taken care of it. It may just be an annoying side effect. Do you take it with food? It may help to take it with food. Gabapentin coadministered with some pain meds like Naproxen, Morphine and hydrocodone can affect absorption of one or the other medications. I cant remember if you said you are taking pain pills again. Anyway, talk to the Dr about it. Show him where the pain is and when it occurs and describe the pain. It could be a side effect or it might be something else altogether. Best to have it checked out!
Thank you DzooBaby!! I'm quite sure you are right, per usual. I don't take it with food, I can't be bothered to eat... I just forget! And I don't want to lose my boyish figure, ha ha. I don't have any acid problems. But, this does feel EXACTLY like the ulcer I had as a teenager! I dunno what to do, Gab helps with the fibro pain, yet it's causing this crap? I can't take Lyrica (hives) and I'm on a small amount of oxycodone, and frightened to go up on the dose!!
I feel like I'm caught betwixt a rock and a hard place. My body pain is getting worse, it feels like my legs are on fire when I'm awake, they twitch and sting too. Then, other parts of my body start to feel like that as well. WHO SHOULD BE MADE TO LIVE LIKE THIS?
Last night, while trying to sleep, my toes, the big one thru the second to last on one foot stood straight UP, AND IT HURT so bad I awoke my deaf dog!! I had to hold my toes down!! It just kept happening, I'm so sorry to whine guys, but between the muscle cramping, the burning pain, and the stinging I feel as if I can't take this sh*t any more, so IF anyone has any idea's I'd be happy to listen!! Perhaps I should be even more annoying and ask another Q? (I'm normally a happy camper, but this has me quite cross and a bit afraid) Thank you, Lara
So if Gabapentin is known to cause stomach problems, why has that not been caught by a GI specialist (after four weeks of treatment for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) and now an upcoming ultrasound for possible gallstones? Doesn't ANYbody really understand the fibro complex!? Just on a hunch, last night I did not take my Gabapentin, and wonder of wonders, today there has been almost zero burping -- which had been a problem for about six months 24/7! Now that I look back, I think it may have begun about the same time I started the Gabapentin. I had been on Lyrica, but it made me so groggy and depressed, I asked my pain doctor for an alternative. Thought that the Gabapentin was the answer -- no groggy head, no more depression and pretty good treatment for ongoing fibro pain. The stomach thing did not seem connected... until today!
Good question, seems we have to look out for ourselves
If you are not getting relief from acid with what you are taking (omeprazole), then your problem may be caused by something else. I found that I needed to take digestive enzymes AND some hydrochloric acid! Many people do not have enough acid to digest their food. They get a big rush of acid late at night by mistake. If you try to take a small amount of hydrochloric acid when you are eating a meal with a lot of protein, you may find you get a lot of relief. Also, you may have food allergies. You sound like you may have candida overgrowth. The pain from that became so bad, I frequently thought of dying as a way out. I have been on a strict anticandida diet for almost three years, which is basically no sugar, no vinegar no soy diet. I have never felt better in my life. It was hard to get used to, but I will never eat sugar again. This has changed everything in my body for the better. The diet I'm doing can be found in the book The Candida Cure by Ann Boroch.
I realize you will have to be quite ill to do the diet properly, but something. you said makes me think you are almost there. Most doctors do not know much about the stomach - I have been looking for years. I know more about the gut than my GI doctor! Hippocrates said the source of all disease is the gut. Your gut is where most of your mental health needs are dealt with (check it out!) and also your immune system. They call the gut your
"second brain" because of all the neurotransmitters there, how it is the boss of many of your emotions, and that is where dopamine and serotonin are produced. You can solve your gut problems yourself. Read!
Lara - It could be a bunch of things or a combination. Bottom line is if it continues past 24 - 48 hours or you get diarrhea, or vomiting I'd be heading out to your doctor, the doc in a box or the ER. In the meantime be kind to your stomach, don't be eating any pizza, tomatoes, fried foods etc. Stick to a bland soft diet. You are already on a protein pump inhibitor and probably 20 mg two times a day, so that is covered. You might want to try Gavascon, an antiacid that was created for heartburn. It is any drugstore and is OTC. Neurontin is know to cause nausea and can cause irritation of your stomach and could in addition with your other medication cause the burning painful sensation. Acouple of hours of this is really not a major problem, but longer than 24 hours could indicate that you need to get it checked out. Hope that it is resolved pretty rapidly.
Hi sis! I think it could be the combo of things you are taking. I have always had a sensitive tummy, & have to take omprazole for it. Occasionly also have to take something for nausea associated with taking pain pills that upset my tummy too. I take a generic compazine for that part, & it stops the nausea in about 15 to 20 minutes. I cannot take any NSAIDs at all. I tried gabepentin, & it didn't help my pain, & Gary takes it, but with all his tummy issues anyway he is of no help in that department either. He takes all of his at bedtime or otherwise it makes him too sleepy during the day. Don't know if he should be, but he does. He takes 1,200 mg at bedtime. I just asked him & he said it doesn't upset his stomach. Have you tried taking any thing like Maalox or something similar? You will have to be careful with these type of meds taking it with your other pills tho. check with the pharmacist about mixing the two together.
I know they can also not agree with one another. If I remember correctly, the antacids will make your other pills not work fully. Hopefully Dzoo will see your question, & give you a better answer than I did!. Sorry sweetie, can't be of much better help for you... Mary
Thank you Mar and thank Gary for me as well. I tried Omerprazole too, to no avail. I am not nauseated, but feel severe burning (NOT like heartburn at all) it feels similar to an ulcer I had in my teens. Hate to be all dramatic, but this really hurts! I will call my pharm, yet the same doc has prescribed ALL my meds, so he would know if they are counterintuitive. At least I hope he would lol !!
xx
Hmmm. Now you have me stumped for sure! How often did you take the omprazole, once a day? I have heard that some people have to take it twice a day, & it takes a while for it to work too. Maybe a week or two??? I can't go without it at all or have that same burning sensation in my tummy. Could be it's time for a gastro checkup. Sounds like you are making too much acid to me which of course calls for a proton pump inhibitor full time. Been on one for 8 years now, & everytime I try to get off, the buring is back with a vengence. I hope someone gets you the right answer soon... Mar
Whoa! I thought I knew all of your med problems, but I'd not idea you are on a proton pump (whatever that is... need to google it)!!
I am taking omeprazole two times a day, once in am and once before dinner.
Thank you again!
Twice a day should be taking care of it, so you need to get to a gastro doc. If it's another ulcer, need to be on an antibioitc if it's H-pylori, which it very well could be. No vomiting blood I hope or anything that looks like coffee grounds? I am sure you already know most of this stuff. Don't be so stubborn like me, & get into a gastro & get it checked out ASAP, PLEASE... Mar
Lara, omprazole is a proton pump inhibitor! So is prilosec to just name two... Mar
Hi i heard the PPI for acid reflux is not good. It can cause C Diff in people all these antacid pills are not good.
The best thing to take for heart burn and stomach upset is pepto bismol.
Read up on these anacids and you will see what i mean. Try drinking more water and chew gum for acid reflux or take pepto. I have had C Diff and yes thess antacid pills caused me a lot of it. You need the acid in you stomach to protect from getting infections like C Diff this is my opioion hope it helps
I don't take a very high dose, however I wouldn't notice if it did give me a stomach ache. Between constipation and trigger points, my stomach always hurts, lolol. I'd have to say tho that I haven't noticed a more severe ache or frequency increase since I'm on it.
Thank you Kaismama, I appreciate your input!
Lara
