Hi Somebody: Did your doctor or pharmacist tell you this? Did your insurance company tell you this? If it were true, seems like it would be something that everyone would know about?
I'm on 10mg oxycodone. 4 pr day. I also suffer from anxiety attacks, but not all the time. My Psychatrist cut me from 60, 1 mg a month to 30 .05s pr month. Thats not helping me at all. She said, that IS THE MAXIMUM DOSAGE OF XANAX she can prescribe as long as im on Opioids. Is she LYING to me??? I have a friend that gets 90 - 1mg Xanax pr month from her primary doc and shes on 120 - 325/10 mg Percocets pr month and her Primary doc and pain doc both know. She has no problems getting both! I had my anxiety problems years before my chronic pain as did she. Im a model patient since 2008 and have never missed apps. or reschedule app. Pass all drug screens, ect. I'm 59 yrs old now and because of other people's desire to OD or get their drugs illegally and not be responsible, we patients that take and do as we're told, we get punished for others!!! So, is my shrink lying about can only prescribe 30- .05 mgs xanax pr month???
It depends on insurance. Doctors that Rx pain medication are not allowed by Medicare to give you benzos. It also depends on many State laws now too. Your Dr. Would be the best source of information for you.
Perhaps instead of Xanax u could take an antidepressant for anxiety. Xanax is an extremely dangerous drug and can cause your heart to stop when you want to quit them. It has to be done as an inpatient so they can monitor your heart. Sorry!! Been there and done that and it was expensive and NOT fun!!!
I would just like to say that it depends on the state that you live in. In the state where I am from the DEA has mandated a new law and protocols that providers must abide by. In which case you are not suppose to RX pain medication with Benzos.. They are weaning the patients off the medications even if they have been taking them for 30 years or more.
Ok I've been on Norco 10/325 done 1996 then I developed hypertension in 2000 after my Daddy died ok so I was out on 10 mg valium then switched by my other to 1 mg Klonopin my phy. Then put me on the largest dose of fentanyl I hated it and if not fit my husband and daughter I could not have got off of it but here it is 2018 I'm not allowed to take anything for my migraines I have begged him Norco no longer works for my back AFTER 12 failed surgeries ok you so know what I'm trying to ask my head hurts to bad to cry I'm not a criminal I'm in alot of pain it's time to change the medicine but I also can't afford ins. So he really don't even want to meet with me
Desperately seeking relief
No, patients receive prescriptions for both, and if it were a federal law, the pharmacist would never release them. :0)
I have been on benzos and pain meds fer thirty years now they telling me dea say ye are making a cocktail out of the two. My pain doc say if I get benzos he no go give me my pain meds. Said it was because of dea and them claiming it a cocktail.i no nothing about any cocktail me big shot dea!!! all I know is I am suffering with anxiety heart rate at 186 beat a minute Wich is under control as long as I had a Valium to take!!! I suggest to thees doctor enforcement authority. DEA,,I Hope you or someone cyou Love a lot has health issues and you have to choose one or the other but wait y'all can just take something from someone ye caught with pills and play doctor!!!
No. I have both prescribed regularly. Even if one was implemented they would have to wean you as benzos are a much harder withdrawal.
Well my shrink is lieing to me! I'm in a pain management and take WELL BELOW the MME index on oxycodone she is weaning me COMPLETELY OFF .05 xanax saying you can't be prescribed both!!! My index is 60MME! Then i get 30 .05 xanax a month for anxiety that MIGHT come up or not! I don't take all the Xanax ea. month! My oxycodone is 4 / 10 mg IR a day. So, opinions and all comments and suggestions are WELCOMED!!! Thanks!
Hi Capn,
I want to clarify ...
Pain management provides the pain meds and the shrink the Xanax ?
I think the first step would be to present this problem to the pain doctor.
He will tell you that the two can be prescribed together. Would he be willing to write the Xanax script?
It won’t replace the counseling part.
Next...
Go see your psych with someone who lives with you or someone that would accompany you. I’m looking for someone who will witness the conversation. There will be less of a chance the shrink will tell you something untrue.

Explain how bad everything is going for you. Tell him the pain is not controlled without the combo.
Tell him the pain doctor had no problem with you receiving the usual dose. Add on that he knew of no law forbidding it.
Do NOT be assertive or you will not get what you want. He will get defensive if he feels verbally “attacked”.
Be very sincere and confused because you are being told two different answers.
This is why having the witness there may help. It also helps if your witness can tell him how you are suffering at home. Be specific and give specific examples of how you are different.
I would nicely ask him if HE feels that you are no longer suffering from anxiety. He should catch on before your next question as to why you need to keep seeing him. If you are not getting treatment with medication and your improving enough to be off of it than why keep coming?
The counseling is still important but he may reconsider if he thinks you will leave.
I DO know that pharmacies are calling doctors if they see two classifications of the same medication being ordered.
This is not the case with you but that may be what the shrink is referring to.
A lot depends on what your pain doc says.
Best of luck
:-)
PS... You may get more responses if you start with a new question instead of adding on to an old one.
That's true benzodiazepines are the worst to go with out an I still get both it's not far if u been taking both for yrs with no problems you shouldn't have to choose
Anyone with a prescription pad can. They, however, can choose not to.
