If you are sensitive to meds, it would be a bad idea. I took them together and ended up with breathing problems for the entire day. Ativan and amitriptyline didn't give me any problems when taken together.
Hi all I am taking ami 25mg now for about 15 days now. I am also still taking the clon three doses. 0.25mg in am, 0.5 at 11 am and 0.5mg at 3pm I have cut out the 0.25mg of clon at nightime. I still think I need to come of the clon which is what the doctors want as well. My body is tolerating it but I really think it is causing more harm like anxiety than good but tough to get off. I have to go slow and only drop by 1/8mg which is 1/2 of 0.25mg. Endtimes how much Elavil and clon are you taking? I go see my doctor in a couple of weeks and see what he has to say as he wanted me at 25mg of the elavil. I hope he doesn;t want me to go higher as I am sensitive to meds and feel really fogey headed when I up the ami. Do you get any side effects during the day.

I'm taking 10mg amitriptyline and .25 - .5mg Clonazepam at night for insomnia. It's safe. But I'm still not sleeping well, so going to try Ami 25 mg tonight. I've been taking the klonopin for years for insomnia, so now it's just not working for me anymore. And I really don't want to increase the dose. I just started the Ami one week ago for insomnia, anxiety, and migraines.
Whats your dosage? I would also like to try Elavil and Klonopin together for sleep but was wandering if .75 klonopin and 10 elavil is not too much. I don want to walk like a zombie next morning.
Endtimes If that is the way the doctor has prescribed them it's no problem if it seems to be helping the only problems that may happen is increased side effects But if your not having any problem with this I would not worry about it. Many people end up having to do it this way just don't go over what the doctor has ordered. This is one of the good reasons to get your medication from the same doctor and take them to the same pharmacy if there is a big interaction it well pop up on the Pharmacist screen if he or she has not noticed it already. Have a good weekend
Melatonin is okay to take on a regular basic for sleep if your still having problems no reason to try to change other meds beccause your not sleeping right. nothing habit forming in it.
Hi Chuck its Purple. I am on both of these meds now. Amptripline increased to 15mg right now for about 8 days prior started at 5mg and then upped to 5.5mg. The klon is still the same 0.25mg in am, .5mg at 11am and .5 at 3pm and then 0.25 at bedtime. Been feeling a little off lately but you are saying if the doctors have prescribed them its okay. I still need to reduce the clon but they are waiting until I stabilize. I was thinking after the 14 days on the 15mg of ami I would try once again to drop 1/8mg of the clon. Slow but I can't take higher drops. Is ami a safe drug to take? Hope you are doing well.

Hi, Drugs.com say there is a 'Moderate' risk:
"Applies to: Elavil (amitriptyline), Klonopin (clonazepam)
Using amitriptyline together with clonazePAM may add to dizziness, drowsiness, breathing problems, and other side effects. This may be more likely to occur in older adults or those with a debilitating condition. Talk with your doctor before using clonazePAM together with amitriptyline. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor".
You should ask Dr or pharmacist. I find pharmacist is best about answering rose types of questions.
