Effexor XR can trigger a false positive for PCP and/or amphetamines on drug tests because of the way your body metabolizes it.
Effexor is not a controlled substance. Most drug screens test for only controlled drugs. Effexor (venlafaxine) is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs). Some pain management docs will screen for antidepressants and it would come up positive for SSNRI. Most entities doing drug testing are only concerned with controlled drugs, however.
