No effect - Mallinckrodt generic Adderall 30mg!?

Question

NOT happy with the generic Adderall manufactured by this, Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals... It’s a white octagonal pill with M on one side, & 30 on the other side. I have been on generic Adderall for over three years now, and for the past year and a half or so have been on 30mg tablets.

When I was first prescribed 30mg tabs I got the round pink tabs, then a few months later... I started getting the round orange tabs, and have been getting those every month since. However, when I picked up my script for this month this past weds at Rite Aid, I realized they were different. I thought well no big deal, ever since I’ve been on Adderall, trying to get adjusted to the correct dosage, I’ve had several different kind of Adderall generics... I truly thought nothing of it.

So today, while at work, I kept telling my coworkers I just don’t feel right, I feel so irritable, I’m all over the place, my brain feels all over the place as well, I feel so drained & worthless. Now for the past feel days I've felt like this, just not as bad, it’s as if each day I began to feel worse & worse, & today was just horrid. At first I had thought that I was just maybe coming down with something, but that wasn’t & isn’t the case at all. This evening, I finally decided, enough was enough.. something just wasn’t right with my medication. I tried to contact my pharmacy, but they were closed already for the day, very unfortunate... So I decided to at least look into the MFR labeled on my bottle of Adderall. It didn’t take more than one search to find numerous complaints and concerns on the MFR & it’s generic Adderall.

Many people complaining, having concerns, & asking if anyone else has had any issues, or noticed any difference in the side effects, &/or effects in general. I continued reading, only to realize that several others were explaining to a T, the exact way I too feel & have been feeling!!! My mind is kind of blown by this, given I’m truly not a skeptic when it comes to pharmaceuticals... And in the past, I’ve never had an issue with switching from one MFR’s generic to another. I really hope the pharmacy is able to help somehow...

Any comments or advice anyone would be willing to share, would be so much appreciated. Thank you so much!

I just got my Rx of mallinckrodt generic Adderall on Monday and I am a basket full of nerves and very irritable. This is the first time I ever received this brand and feel awful and was wondering if that is how you feel.

Please submit all your complaints to fda.gov/medwatch. And report this!! I am 38 and have been on a combo of Effexor and Adderall IR for 16+ years. My Effexor has never changed manufacturers and the Adderall has always been Teva and a couple times Sandoz and never experienced the hell I am currently going through. I picked up my RX and got it filled the 8th of August. I take 30mg in the AM and 30mgs after 2 or so. I took my first dose Thursday morning and laid down for a bit. I ended up sleeping for two more hours! I got up and attempted to get ready for work. Got to work around 3 and took my last dose. I was so dazed and in a fog that customers were talking to me and I was looking right through them. I work retail and the normal me is up beat, engaging and helpful and that first full dose, I was a complete blah! By the end of the day, closing my store and counting money was the hardest task.

I mean come on, who can’t count change and dollars?! I literally could no focus on what I was doing or what count I was at. Just like one of you said earlier, I thought I was coming down with the flu. I had the WORST headache and just was so tired. So a week went on and I’m like yeah, not sick, it’s these pills! Last Sunday I had the first major panic attack in at least five years!! This Sunday, tonight as I type this, I am having one again. Since I got the Mallinckrodt ones, these have been my symptoms: dazed, dizziness, major anxiety, brain zaps(I had these when I tried getting off Effexor and Adderall before), I feel like I’m in a dream state with my eyes open under water. It’s super clear but wavy. If that makes any sense. Anyway, I have experienced everything y’all have. I called the FDA and filled out the voluntary medwatch form. There is something definitely wrong with this stuff and I hope they pull it. I am seeing my doctor to hopefully get another RX tomorrow for Sandoz or Teva. And the Mallinckrodt are hopefully going to the FDA for testing. If not there, then in the trash where they belong!

I discovered this forum detailing the Mallinckrodt nightmare when, at my wit's end, I decided to Google the pharmaceutical company's generic version of Adderall. All comments mirror my experience with the drug and confirm my suspicions: Mallinckrodt's "Adderall" is not only an inadequate substitute in its generic form, but is also potentially dangerous.
I, too, suffered mightily while taking this little white pill. However, my initial concern was that the thing could not be split cleanly in half. I often break my tablets into two, saving one for later in the day--a habit that, in the Mallinckrodt case, resulted in half a pill and a palmful of powdered dust. As it turned out, a clean cut was negligible in the light of, what I consider to be, the generic's psychotropic hazards.

Under its influence, I morphed into Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Episodic bouts of rage and tears became daily occurrences. Furthermore, in order to quell the intensity of these outbursts, I unwisely ratcheted up my alprazolam intake. My knee-jerk response resulted in a supply deficit (of the generic Xanax) before month's end and the beginning of withdrawal symptoms.
My most recent refills of the Adderall generic have been manufactured by Teva and Sandoz. What a world of (happy) difference! And while I intend to withdraw from alprazolam, that's not why I'm here. I simply want to corroborate the accounts of those who've contributed thus far and to add my story to the mix.
Contrary to popular opinion, brand-name generics are NOT all alike.

The last 3 times I filled my prescription, I received the Mallinckrodt generic of Adderall. I completely agree, something is DEFINITELY off with this variety as its effectiveness has significantly reduced, at least by 50%, and on top of that, I have been experiencing excruciating headaches (even prescription migraine medication hasn't helped) that seem to come on about an hour after I take my dose everyday. I have been on Adderall for almost 10 years and have tried all the name brand and generic varieties, all of which for the most part, I have had no complaints about.

SAME!! My last 2 prescriptions were manufactured by Mallinckrodt. All they do is make me feel weird, I’m even more scattered brain and give me headaches!! Not to mention, I’m taking more 10mg more, being my normal 30mg didn’t work at all, so now I’m taking 40mg in the morning and hardly feel any of the benefits.

I spoke to the pharmacist and they only sell what they have available. All I know is I will ask for the manufacturer before I fill my next prescription, or just pay the extra money for the non-generic Adderall.

Hello. I&rsquo;m also having problems with the Mallinckrodt Adderall. Every single time I take it, I get a headache that doesn&rsquo;t seem to go away unless I take some Tylenol. It&rsquo;s definitely not as strong as other generics and I hate it. My pharmacy recently switched the manufacturers and I&rsquo;m forced to deal with this for the time being... My advice to you is to ask your psychiatrist to write a specific manufacturer down on your prescription and have him/her send it to a pharmacy that can order the said generic for you. Unfortunately, that&rsquo;s the only way to avoid this complication. Hopefully everything ends up working out for you.
