i was given 40mg of pepcid in the emergency room for a rash that i have all over my body. the er nurse said i can buy it over the counter. i then went to walgreens and the pharmacy stated that pepcid is a histimine blocker but it will not help me with my rash, who do i listen to and why?

An interesting question... has the Pepcid helped?
You are best to use a H1 receptor blocker eg. Benadryl, Chlortripalon, Atarax, Claritin,Seldane, and Hismanal (like the pharmacy recommended)
Pepcid is an H2 receptor blocker and may be thought of as an allergy reaction modifier and antacid combined.
Sometimes H1 and H2 blockers are given together to treat more acute allergies.
Seek another professional opinion if you are confused!
