Your right. Valium comes in 5 and 10 mg tablets. I’m prescribed 4 5 mg tablets a day which comes out to 20 mg and is the equivalent of a 2 mg Xanax bar. I switched from 2 mg of Xanax a day to 20 mg Valium cuz the Xanax is not long lasting at all. Xanax last about 4 hours 5 if your lucky but all depends on body and how your brain is wired but that affects everything you take. Valium last from 6 up to 8 hours with at least 12 hours of residual effects meaning it likes to linger around. I like both honestly and your going to take what you want and believe what you what cuz that’s the way it is. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in on the subject cuz I keep seeing ignorance about Valium. And I’m not insulting anyone when I say that I’m just saying you don’t know about the drug. It dousnt take 20 mg Valium to equal 1 mg or half a bar Xanax. Just no. I hope someone learns from this.

2mg Xanax is equal to 40 mg of Valium. .25mg of Xanax is equal to 5mg of Valium.

I have been on 1 mg xanax 4 times a day for two year i would run out and buy them i was so high i couldn't tell you my name most days i now take 2mg of valium two times a day and i fell like iam alive again. stay away from xanax if you can

Valium saved me when I had panic attacks and anxiety, along with therapy. Tried a xanax or two years later... nothing! Always have my valium in the house, as a safety measure. Don't ever want anxiety back. Don't take it unless you need it. It relaxes your thoughts so you don't dwell on how you are feeling.

I have been taking 4mg of xanax for insomnia, but it's not working as well as it did (I've taken it for over 5 years). Does Valium help with insomnia?

You build up tolereance to benzo's very quickly, they well be working but you wount feel anthing because you have been on them for a while. Just give them up for a good few weeks and you'll feel it from one 2mg. I know all this from experience and have to take 15 or so to feelanyrhing

For bt74600, I'd say the best benzodiazepine for insomnia would be temazepam aka restoril

I don't understand why a doctor would offer you value when you already have a prescription for Xanax. I agree with you though to stay with the word medication that you're prescribed and not Take to benzodiazepines at the same time. if you ran out of your Xanax he may have been offering you the valium to keep you out of withdrawal until you could see your prescribing physician of the Xanax. It is never okay to mix to benzodiazepines. This is a serious health risk
