I am currently on my 3rd Depo shot and I want to know if it can cause permanent infertility? I have done research and some say it can cause infertility. What's your experience? Please let me know!

My Granddaughter has been on Depo shots for a couple of years and now she is in severe pain on morphine for a while. A cyst on her ovarie. They said she has 3 of them ( cyst). I will be so upset if this shot caused it and becomes infertile due to the shots. To think she would never have a family will be awful. I hope not. We are and have always been a very fertile family of women. Never a problem.
My granddaughter is in the same boat I am so upset. She has had much problems and now ruptured cysts on her overies. Even not being on birth control now there is no pregnancies. She had the derpro for a year or 2 . They said depro has been know to cause cysts. Why couldn't they tell us it could lead to infertility? I am one angry grandmother knowing my granddaughter may never have her wonderful family.
I've done a lot of research about infertility, repairing damage, and the depo shot. One thing ya might want to research and have your granddaughter try is Wobenzyme N, I've read a lot about it getting rid of cysts and healing damage. I am so sorry for you, God bless.
I have been on it for nine years and want kids should I stop taking the shot. Please give me some help and im 29 years old I went on it when I was 21
I had one depo shot after my youngest child, I was 19. My periods have never been "normal". I still have periods ever couple of months but no pregnancy. It has been 6 years since any form of birth control was used by my husband or I. My doctor says everything is normal. I don't understand how things can be normal and nothing has changed but no more children... the only thing I can think of is that one depo shot did something not so funny :( I do not suggest anyone take this shot.
i dont normally write on these but i saw this and had to..i had my son at 19 right i after had 2 depo shots i did bleed the whole time so never went back when i was 20 my husband and i started trying to have another child we had a very hard time concieving but finally did over a year later and we found out on my birthday july 5 of 2012 one month later i miscarried i went to an obgyn and they told me i had no fertility problems. recently i found a dr that was more helpful and now a couple of day ago i found out that i have thickened endometrium and my right ovary is enlarged and covered in cysts that are very painful and she told me that it was more than likly due to the depo shot i got when i was 19. i do not ovulate now and not sure if i will ever be able to have more kids.
I am in the same boat. Depo ruined my chances of ever getting pregnant again! I went from young and healthy 23 with two children within 14 months. I took Depo right after my second son and that was it. No more babies or regular periods for me... HORRIBLE DRUG!! DO NOT TAKE!!!
I went on the depo in Sep & I was suppose to get it around June but never went me & my bf always have unprotected sex & want a family is it gunna take us awhile to conceive ?
I got the depo shot when I was in my early 20's. Was in a 10 year relationship and tried to have a child, but both o Nguyen never happened. Here I am 22 years later and I'm still unable to bare kids.
I got 2 shots total but I took a break between the 2. I would always go in for my first shot but never the second. After the shot my periods were very irregular. My boyfriend and I tried to get pregnant and had a really hard time. About a year later we finally got pregnant in december 2012, and I had a miscarriage.
Was on the Depo straight from 12 to 18 and on and of since and i have 3 beautiful girls! No problem here!
Not sure if it's too late to ask you a question since you commented so long ago but how long after you stopped taking depo were you able to get pregnant?
Hello, i read your comment and i jus want to make sure of things. I was ON the depo for 4 years, then OFF for 1 year, and have now been on the depo for 2 years again. During the 1 year period when i was not on the shot, it took me almost 9 months to start having my period. I bleed for a month straigh, then every week for another month, then every 2 weeks for another month and then finally started regular periods after that! Then i got back on again for 2 years now. My fiancé and i are trying to have a baby now. I have a few questions... #1 Will being on the depo cause permanent loss of infertility? And #2 how long did it take for you to get pregnant after have stopping the depo? I have always had this gut feeling that maybe i wont be able to have children because ofnhe depo and now that ibam actually trying to have children its scaring me even more... I need answers please! Thank you..
I was on the shot from 16-18 i stil have never gotten my period back and now trying to get pregnant and i feel the depo is the cause
how old are you now? i am wondering if i have the same problem. i had the shot january first this year and experienced every side effect. in addition to the normal side effects of mood swings and break outs everything began to spiral out of control. my period kind of stopped and i continued spotting for 5 months and at the point with how much pain i was in found out that i had developed 2 cysts on my right ovary. i went to my doc in january thinking i had endometriosis and now they have prescribed me another kind of birth control. i started to take that and finally i stopped bleeding after 5 months straight. i am supposed to start my period and well i dont feel any different than i have the past month being on this new birth control. i am concerned that i wont have my period for a long time if i ever have another one this year. the weird thing is that the shot is supposed to be good for 3 months but i still bled for 2 months after that was supposedly out of my system. confused about it all
I was on the depo shot from 11 to 13 I have been off for years now and I seem to be having the same problem... I had all of the side affects of depo while being on it and never got pregnant while on it. As a result of depo I had my period on going for almost a year! I have heard it is normal. But if you are really wondering if you can have a baby talk to a doctor they will suggest many different options with ranging cost so you can have a baby if it has affected you in that way. You will most likely still be able to have a baby with you significant other when using these methods so do not let it frighten you. Doctors do know a little :)
Omg! I was on the depo for 2 1/2 years and I quit taking it in Feb. 2014 that made 2 1/2 year mark and I've heard it can mess up your uterus if on it longer then 2 years and I gained my period back in August 2014 and I've been really struggling with getting knocked up by my husband we have a child already but I so bad want another one.
I did have a miscarriage October 2014 tho I think this stupid shot has something to do with my body as well!
me too
I took the deposit shot for less than a year back in 2009 around age 18, after I didn't start having regular periods again until almost 2 years later!!! To this day I am unable to conceive a child & I'm now 24:( will I ever be able to have children??? Is this because of the deposit shot? What's wrong w me??? Is there anything I can do or take to get my hornones normal or fix whatever is wrong w me?? PLEASE HELP, I AM MENT TO BE A MOTHER AND I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO HAVE A CHILD BEFORE I AM TOO OLD!!!
Wow, me too. Hopefully one day we can have our bundles of joy.
I had no trouble conceiving at age 33 after several years on depo and maybe a year or so off.
I know it's been a while but how many years were you on depo straight?
I don't really remember. It had to be somewhere between 2 and 4. That baby I had at 33 is 13 now (-:
I am a 19 year old girl my momma put me on depo at age 13 wasn't sexually active until 16 years of age I've just gotten off depo in February of last year since then I'm doing hell of bleeding a lot they put me on birth control pills to regulate it I was wondering if u could still have kids
Why can't i it's been 2yrs help
It was a long time ago when I used the provera. I can't say that it can cause infertility but I can say that it can cause birth defects in an unborn child. I used it only twice and the second time I didn't know that I was pregnant. I consulted a health care provider who suggested that it would more than likely cause severe birth defects. I was suggested to abort the pregnancy. I lost the baby anyway so not sure if that was part of the reason. I don't know what your taking the depo for but I would definitely talk to my doctor more about the problems it can cause. Not to scare you but to make you more aware and ask your doctor these questions.
Im taking it for protection and im only 16 but i want kids some day. Im aware of all other birth controls but not sure which are the safest
It's not known to cause issues with permanent infertility, but it is known to cause problems sometimes with an unborn child, if you are pregnant and then have the Depo shot.
hi my name is savannah and i was wubdering if u have been on the depo shot for a long time will it cause u not to beable to have kids later down the road . cause im going off the depo shot and thanking bout taken the pill again . if u can help me with this i would realy be grateful
I wrote this 2 yrs. Ago and get up dates . after reading what has been written it seems to me that their are risks with this drug to ward anyone off the use of it. I ended up with endometriosis and that led to a hysterectomy. So I wanted to add this to my comments before I unsubscribe to this question. A lot of you ladies are very young and I'm not AM in my 60's now and was not sexually active so young so please wait and don't take a risk while your young to have fun and ruin your chances after marriage and really want children. Its NOT WORTH IT. God bless you all and make the right dissions now
