I am currently on my 3rd Depo shot and I want to know if it can cause permanent infertility? I have done research and some say it can cause infertility. What's your experience? Please let me know!

I got one while active duty army in 2008. I was infertile until 2016.
It can.
I'm going to the doctors to find out if I can get pregnant or not due to this depo shot I guess I'll find out soon I'll keep this thread updated
Heavy periods have come so I'm guessing I'm not pregnant shocker I'm curious to know if all of you are having periods because surely if we are there are still chances of pregnancy?
I was on the depo shot from the age 14-18 no one ever told me to get off the shot or that you were only supposed to be on it for two years I am 21 and since I stop all birth control at 18 I have not had a period. I've been trying to conceive for a year now and it has been impossible the only thing my doctor can tell me is that it's a "hangover" from the depo shot and eventually it will ware off. Stay away from this birth control it will really mess you up.
I was on depo from 14-17 years old and I am now 21 years old and as much as we've been trying me and my boyfriend just can't seem to get pregnant we've tried EVERYTHING..I had plenty complications on depo so my doctor made me get off of it..my body was having a bad reaction to it, but ever since I got off depo I've been having non stop yeast infections/ bacteria..I had a ciss on my ovary, and I just had a kidney infection..I've never had any of these problems until I got on depo, depo really messed up my body and ever since I've been off I've been having non stop problems, infections, and bacteria..and it seems like it's so impossible to get pregnant and I think it's because I constantly have yeast infections or bacteria but I know for a fact depo caused all of these complications..I just wana know if depo is the reason I keep gttn infections and/or can't get pregnant do I possibly have a lawsuit?
I never had infections whilst on depo so I am not sure of this but many people expierence different things on contraception. My friend was on the pill and kept getting thrush so it depends on person. I have no idea I believe depo has ruined my chances too I have been off everything and had unprotecive sex several times and I have not fallen pregnant as of yet. It's very worrying anyone who is on depo who wants children ever needs to come off asap
I had started taking depo when I was 18 and continued taking it until I got married at 23. I had taken it originally with my Pcp and then with planned parenthood after a few years. I didn't know at the time that you are only suppose to be on it for 2 years and when I went and got it from planned parenthood they didn't have my record s so they didnt know how long i was on it at that point and didn't tell me about the 2 years until I had gotten off of it. I am now 33 and my system has been messed up since then. I only have my period about 1-2 times a year. And my husband and I have failed to get pregnant (but don't know for sure if we can blame this on the depo). Plus i have some other side affects. So it might not make you infertile but it will mess you up if taken too long so be aware.
So you have been off the depo for a long time and still not pregnant? I have stopped taking my pill and depo and I haven't fell pregnant yet. It must be the depo which has messed it up. I was on the depo for longer than 2 years god knows what I'm going to do when I want to have a baby now I don't even have a boyfriend or a partner and I'm worried
I was on it for 10 years, off now for 7 years (Got period back after the first year of going off it). Haven't been able to conceive, I was just classified as having "unexplained infertility". Dr's wont admit that Depo causes this, could you imagine the lawsuits!! Next step is Clomid I guess
I'm really concerned about all of us on thi thread and why they never said this could be a chance of using depo shot. How is it possible for it to permanently damage our bodies? This needs to be banned I'm really upset and I don't even see myself having children
I have not had an professional opinion on whether or not depo cause infertility but I can tell you about my personal experience. I began taking depo in 2002 I was 15 yrs old and I just had my daughter, I kept up with my appointments for my shots consistently until 2014 that's when I decided that I wanted another baby with my partner and I have been trying every since then. I am now 30 yrs old and my daughter is 14 and til this very day I am still trying
Hi there,
Not sure if many people are still actively replying to this question any more!
If you are I would really love to speak with some of you I have been on birth control from the age of 16 to the day almost nearly 22 now (nearly 6 years) I started on birth control pills and then went onto the Depo shot for 1.5 years told I had to take a break and had the worst experience non stop bleeding for about 6 months had to see a GYN was told to take some medication to make it stop and go back onto the pill to regulate things was super forgetful with the pill and had breakthrough bleeding all the time, so was told I should try the Depo shot again, I was told by my doctor the chances of having the same experience when stopping it again should be slim but I have been reading other people's experiences and slight worried, I have only had 2 shots of the Depo this time, I would like to be ttc in the next year but not sure if I will even get a period back after stopping? My next shot is due on Jan 24th but I don't think I will be getting this, just need a bit of advice, I really want to be able to have kids hopefully in the next 2-3 years max
Thank you :)
Yes. Depo will cause infertility. Also it will lower the strength of your bones and cause your immune system to be lower.
I took depo straight for 10yrs after having my first son. I stopped having a period after my 1st year. Once I came off after being told to by my doctor saying that was long enough, my period returned within the first month. I became pregnant within 4months. My second son now 7yr. Then became pregnant 3rd time 4yrs ago with my third son. I never had any complications with depo.
I've been on depo since I was 12 , but I've been off it for 2 years and 9 months . I have a period every 3 months. I'm 19 years old when will I be able to have a baby ?
I'm shocked at the responses i get here... doctors really dont say this when one seeks advice on the best contraceptive to use..i'm on my 2nd shot, ive never had a child.i'm really scared now
I was on the depo for maybe about 2-3 years, I moved to another state and the clinic I went to told me that they do the injection in the stomach with a longer syringe, I was weary of this because it had always been done in my arm or hip. I decided to trust the clinic but after awhile I started getting weird indents in my stomach when I asked about them they said "when someone is skinny sometimes it can eat away at the muscle in the stomach but it's fine" my periods started getting irregular and I would bleed for months straight and then stop for a couple of days and out of nowhere with no warning I would start gushing blood. It was embarrassing. Having bleeding like that in public.! It was concerning because of how much blood it was. I went to the dr and talked to them about it and they pretty much ignored me and I eventually got off of the depo.
It's been 2 years since Then and within the last 4 months I started having regular periods but from the beginning of the depo shot till now I should have gotten pregnant, I'm not trying to get pregnant but not using protection, my husband ejaculating inside and me forgetting my birth control pills sometimes two days in a row, my husband and I should have conceived by now, we've been together 5 years and married for one year. im worried that I can't get pregnant because I want kids one day.
I took the shot after I have my son. I continued treatment for a year but decided to discontinue treatment because my fiance and I wanted another baby. My son is about to turn five in 3 months and we still haven't conceived. I think the shot is to blame. After doing some research I found that sterility is one of the side affects of using this treatment. Funny how the doctors never mentioned this when listing the pros and cons for this medication to me.
I was on Depo for 10 years straight, took me 1 year to get my period back then started trying to conceive. Tried for almost 2 years to conceive with no luck. I am with a different partner now and have been trying for 3 months, still no luck. I know he is fertile as he has 2 children but the Dr can't find anything wrong with me. I honestly believe the Depo has ruined my chances of having a baby :( Going back to the Dr to discuss fertility drugs but am not very optimistic about it
