I am extremely sensitive to medication changes and had to open the Cymbalta capsule and take out some of the contents in order to slow down my taper. Dropping 30 mgs at a time was too fast for me! Taking out part of the capsule worked well. Regards - ElizaJane

Is there an important distinction re splitting Cymbalta or duloxetine? Must you still use the capsule, that is, maintain it intact, and simply reduce the number of beads?

I too want to know if I need to use the capsule still after the beads are separated. Or can I just take the beads?

Were you ever tried on it at higher doses to see if it helped? You will have to have help from the doc to get off of it, which everyone should do anyway. You can't cut a capsule.

The capsules do come apart and there are between 200-280 little coated beads inside.
Yes you can divide in half. My pharmacist showed me how to do this. You carefully open the capsule (I suggest doing this over a plate or large bowl) and remove as many of the beads as you need to.
This sure helped me when I had to stop cymbalta

Thank you for comment . I feel happier to half tabs , to slowly come of I'm going to half one day then have full next for a few weeks then lower dose to 20 mg for a few weeks then do same again ( half ) . Hope this works !! Once again thanks

If you need any help I would be happy to. Cymbalta is one of the tougher ones to get off but there are lots of healthy things you can do that help. Get yourself a good high potency vitamin and good quality omega 3. Start taking them right away as they help alot.

You can't cut capsules in half like a regular pill. You'd have to ask your dr for a lower dosage. I found that it didn't help me at all.
