I hate taking a shower due to depression and I don’t even know what to try. I wish my doctor never put me on this.
Cymbalta - Cymbalta isn’t working that great and it’s hell to come off.

Hi kstoeck. I was on Cymbalta for nerve pain. I took it for 10+ years and my health deteriorated the entire time I was taking it. I finally realized everything was because of side effects from Cymbalta. I started to taper off it soon after I found out. I tapered off by opening up the capsules and counting the beads. It was a bit difficult at first, but I got used to it quite fast. I went down 10% every two weeks. The withdrawals were minimal and manageable. When I was completely off Cymbalta every side effect was gone. Tapering off the Cymbalta was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I have a life again, and my children are so relieved to have their Mom back.
I recently withdrew off of Cymbalta. I did it under my doctors supervision and it was done over a 2 month period. Some days were rough but it is the best thing I could have done. Once I was off of the Cymbalta I realized how many side effects I was suffering from with while I was on it. I feel so much better now!
Best wishes to you!
Are you not depressed anymore?
I am not depressed anymore. I feel so much more like myself.
Hi, kstoeck!
I hope you're discontinuing the Cymbalta under your doctor's supervision with an extended tapering schedule.
What, if any, other antidepressants have you tried? It's just my personal experience but Cymbalta was the first that I tried and it wasn't very effective but easy to discontinue. The standard first choice recommended treatment for depression/anxiety is the SSRI medications like Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, and Prozac. I found Lexapro to be great and took it for over 7 years.
Many people have to try a couple of meds before they find the one that works the best for them. Everyone responds differently to this type of medication.
What it comes down to is deciding to live with depression or to be willing to do a little experimenting.
Best regards and I hope you're feeling better soon.
How did you get off Cymbalta? I don’t think I can count the pellets
I was on 120mg/day. The first week I took 60mg/day and in the second week 30mg/day. Then 30mg every other day for a week.
The first couple of days on the 60mg I felt a little dizzy but then I was fine.
It comes in different strengths so you continue taking capsules. Much easier and much safer than playing around counting pellets as some people might suggest.
You still have options. I'm Bipolar with severe depressive episodes and occasional hypomania but most antidepressants made me manic too. I've been taking bupropion (Wellbutrin) for some time and it works well without provoking mania. It's another atypical antidepressant but unlike Cymbalta I find it very energizing. I also take a mood stabilizer and Vraylar which treats Bipolar disorders and Major Depressive Disorder.
If standard antidepressants made you manic you might consider being undiagnosed BiPolar or have BiPolar Depression. That's what happened with me...
Something to discuss with your doctor.
Wildcat… How are the side effects? Taking 30 mg every other day would give me trouble
I only had a very minimal headache the first two days and nothing after that. Why do you think that the every other day would be a problem for you?
My depression is gone but I’m getting bruises..I guess that’s all right
Wildcat…doing good but I don’t like Cymbalta due to bruising and it can cause hair loss but I’m good now
Both these side effects are very uncommon but have been reported. Are you having a problem with them?
Glad to hear you're doing better!
Wildcat.. bruising alot
Wildcat… how you doing?
It's not very likely that your hair is going to thin and fall out :) The bruising is the big issue... does your doctor know?
P.S. I'm okay all things considered. It's been extremely stressing lately but I'm holding up.
Thanks for asking!
