I agree with Robert. You will most likely need to come off the Suboxone because you will most likely need a post-op narcotic such as Lortab. If you take Lortab while on Suboxone it will do nothing for pain. However sometimes Suboxone is used for pain control but not during or after most surgeries. So you'll need to talk with the doctor that prescribes the Suboxone to you and tamper off (Buprenorphine can stay in your system for up to 11 days.) so that the medication they give you will work properly for you. After the surgery and after you finish your prescribed pain medication you will get back on Suboxone. I hope this helps. I wish you the best. Also I would talk with your surgeon and let him or her know that you take suboxone. Some Surgeons can actually use Buprenorphine to control the pain during surgery although this is rare. It's worth asking though. Good luck to you!
Same thing goes for Subutex.
I am not taking suboxone, I am taking subutex. I think it is a little bit different. If I am on 4 mg subutex and smoke h, I dont feel it but if I take 1 mg or even 2 mg, I feel the h when I smoke. right now I am on 3 mg and will go down to 1 or 2 mg before the surgery. I have to get general anesthesia, it will be nose operation. and after the surgery I will not need any pain medication so it is only about the general anesthesia. The problem is there is no subutex in the country I am going to get my surgery. the doctors dont have any idea what subutex is there so they couldnt really help me. my doctor here in this country where i am originally taking the subutex says it is possible but it has to be done differently somehow...
Suboxone and Subutex have the same narcotic which is Buprenorphine. However The only difference is that Suboxone has Naloxone which prevents people from injecting it into there veins. So essentially they are exactly the same drug if taken as directed (Sublingually) and will work the exact same if taken sublingually. I sure hope you don't need pain meds after. Subutex will not interact with general anesthesia as long as they don't give you any narcotics in your IV. Hopefully like you said you won't need pain meds after because if you do and you are still on subutex they will not work at all so you'll have to take a higher dose of Subutex if you are in pain because it can be used for pain control. I wish you the best of luck though!
that is great information so with general anesthesia I can get my surgery no problem with subutex
but what do u mean as long as they dont give u narcotics in your VI?
During surgery some surgeons will inject narcotics such as Fentanyl to calm you down and relieve some the pain during surgery. This is common. I would let the surgeon know that you are taking Buprnorphine (If he or she doesn't know what that is I would be scared of going to that doctor because it's a common drug and the chemical name for suboxone.) Example: When I was having knee surgery they gave me Fentanyl through my IV during and right after the surgery which helps relieve pain during and after the surgery if the patent is in pain. It's common in the United states. I would just double check with the surgeon and ask him if he will be using any narcotics during or post op after the surgery. If he does end up using the narcotics during and after the procedure he or she will have to give you an extremely high dose for it to work if you have Buprenorphine in your system (Subutex or Suboxone) because Buprenorphine is an Antagonist which blocks other narcotics from working. I hope this helps. Good luck to you!
What kind of surgery? You will likely need to stop the subs for a period of time determined by what you give me as an answer.
I wanted to write a general comment but wrote it under the second comment, I gave the answer there: nose surgery...
I dont want to stop my subutex before, I cant handle the wd I think. I am currently on 3 mg and will go down to 1 or 2 mg before couple of days of the surgery, what do u think?
