I have been taking Xanax 1mg 2 or 3 times a day for years..it is great for preventing panic attacks. I am back on Buspar 15 mg twice a day..I think it helps some for generalized anxiety disorder.Anyone else taking buspar and Xanax together? I read one helpful post where a person was taking valium and buspar together with good results.
Sincerely,
Jerry

I was taking 1mg Xanax 4 time's a day for over 20yrs 2 months my doctor lowerd my Xanax to 1mg 3 time's a day. I was having bad panic attacks every day due to this. The reason he had to lower it is due to new laws. When I went back he put me on 10mg Busparb2 times a day along with the 3 Xanax a day. I have been on both for about 3 weeks and the buspar does make me a little sleepy I am still having panic attacks about every day. I am also on Ambien for insomnia. Hoping this gets better. They wanted to put me on Zoloft but I have been on many depression meds before with no help. I am not depressed I just have major panic attacks so bad that they thought they were seizures.
I take the two together with no problems, Buspar has be a life saver for me, and the Xanax helps with in between time. Good luck anxiety stinks,
I just started taking Buspar at night .5 for anxiety and sleep, I was taking xanax but am trying to get off it. The buspar really mellows me but am only sleeping a few hours a night. not enough to fall asleep. Any suggestions until the buspar kicks in? Is it ok to take .25 xanax with .5 buspar?
My Dr moved and I was on xanax for so very long, and the Dr failed to tell me that it would take weeks for the Buspar to kick in and I'm on my last rx of xanax and kind of worried, hoping the buspar will work because xanax barely did it for me . I have severe anxiety and panic attacks and it's no fun as everyone here knows. The dr also prescribed me seroquel which they prescribed it to me for sleep but I have not yet taken it because I'm still trying to taper myself off the last rx of xanax and just started taking the buspar today and if I'd had run across this page sooner it really would have helped me more. I'm scared to take the seroquel for sleep because I don't wanna take to many downers as it is bad for your respiratory system. I feel your pain , I sleep only a few hours a night if I'm lucky and I could used to go days without sleeping all the stress, but I do at least sleep some now but I wish I could get a full night's sleep. Good luck .
May I ask if you have any side effects from the Buspar like dizziness and blurred vision? Or does that go away in time ? Thanks
What dose of each?
Hi, Buspar can be just as effective if taken with another medication, Xanax won't impair how the Buspar works. There are no interaction risks either.
Hi Jerry-
I am on Buspar same dosage as you. It took 3 weeks for the Buspar to kick in. I took xanax for break through anxiety until it kick in. I have not had to take a xanax for 2 weeks now. If I had not researched the Buspar I would have given up on it. It does take awhile to start working.
The reason I started the buspar was so I would not have to take a benzo. If you want to continue the xanax I believe it is OK to take both, I did for a little while with no ill effects.
Take care and be safe.

I wanted to to Say that my doctor fair warned me that buspar can weeks and even month for some on its working really good for me now I only have to take a buspar 15mg in the morning one at lunch and them 1mg clonazepam at night slowly ween
Hi Jerry I'm glad I read your comment because I didn't know it took that long for buspar to kick in and I'm actually on my last ex of xanax that I've literally been on for a very long time for severe anxiety attacks and pain attacks and so I was wondering if you could take both of needed and you answered that question thank you. Do you know anything about serqeuol 50 mg for sleep? Just curious butterfly
My Dr also failed to tell me that it took buspar weeks to kick in and today is my first day of taking it and I'm glad I ran across this website because a lot of questions were answered for me by reading other people's comments , some anyways , hoping someone will still find me and have any knowledgeable to give me of the question's I asked , it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.
It would make sense to be on buspar to prevent anxiety, and take a benzo only as needed, kind of like extended release pain meds and pain meds for breakthru. Buspar either works very well for someone or not at all. There are no interactions between buspar and xanax.
Hi kaismama,
Thank you for your comments..you have an interesting analogy about benzos for breakthrough anxiety
I'm glad I saw your comment, because I was prescribed xanax 1 mg 3 times a day for panic attacks and bad anxiety , which I've had all my life. We'll my Dr moved and I don't wanna be on a controlled substance so they referred me to see a physcarist because the state I live in that kind of professional has to prescribe them i guess. I was trying to taper myself off xanax because the Dr put me on Buspar 15 mg twice a day and then Seroquel for sleep. She said the first week take one a night for a week and then it says increase to 2 a night after one week and they are 50 mg of seroquel. I was reading on the literature that the pharmacy gives you with your meds and it says not to take any pain meds with these medications, and I don't know quite what to do because I live in chronic pain everyday, some days are better than others so that worries me.
I was wondering if you knew if it would hurt to take pain relievers only when necessary while on these meds? I was quite shocked because I asked the pharmacist and he told me to ask my Dr in which I've had no success over the last week so I'm kinda afraid to take the seroquel right now for sleep. I've been in 5 car wrecks ( none my fault) actually 2 hit and runs , then I was bucked off a horse and I'm not on here looking for sympathy or pity just have a lot of health issues and wonder if anyone is going through anything similar , or can answer the question will it hurt to take pain meds when needed with these meds ? Because the pamplet I read says not to because it can slow the respiratory system down .. I know and understand my body and I'm praying the buspar works for the anxiety and panic attacks because even though I didn't like taking the xanax it did help , and I'm on my last script so I started the buspar today , but not the seroquel. Thanks.
I took Buspar years ago and it did nothing for me. I only take Xanax for emergencies. Am taking 37.5 of Effexor and 100 Lamictal. My mouth is
driving me nuts but my doctor tells me it's not the Effexor. I've had the problem for almost 7 months. Hope you find your answer.
Hi Kitty
I noticed you take Effexor 37.5 mg... when my nefazodone stopped working after many years my shrink put me on Effexor..said take 75 mg for a week then 150 mg..well on the second day at 75 mg was a nervous wreck..asked him for the 37.5 mg caps and he prescribed them for me..when I saw him next he said this was a placebo effect dose..my pharmacist said she had customers on this dose..The 37.5 mg dose seems to help me..helps with social anxiety and panic reduced Xanax dose..may I ask what you take the Effexor for? It seems to be a better med than Zoloft and Paxil which I tried in the past
Sincerely.
Jerry
I take 37.5 of Effexor for anxiety and depression. My doctor old me
sometime less is more. I tried to drop it and it didn't work which he
said told him it was doing something for me. If it works why question it?
Good luck to you.
Hi Kitty
You sound like me!
I have been ranting on this forum that sometimes less is more for a long time..especially if you are high strung/anxiety disorder!
I toke Effexor for a year for my migraines, and yes it’s both a migraine med and anti depressant. it never gave me cotton mouth or anything..
