Hi what dose of baclofen have other found effective for chronic back pain. I'm currently on 30mg a day but its not giving me enough relief from the severe tightness and burning feeling in my back. My skin is also very hit to touch in the painful areas ( I can only describe it as though it is lactic acid).

Charles,
I have found taking 20 mg. Three times a day helps alot to keep my muscles from tightening up & having spasms as bad.
I have actually been on this dosage for about 4yrs.
Best of luck, Kathy
Thank you Lacy and Charles. Just called my doctor regarding increasing the dose of Baclofen. I have been taking 10 mg three times a day, and dealing with major muscle spasms.
Lactic acid build up would be from exercising to the point of oxygen decrease to muscles. Baclofen is a muscle relaxant. You are on a low dose. The recommended therapeutic level is 40 to 80mgs per day. May need to talk to the doctor and let him know of your symptoms.
Thank you so much for your reply. I had an MRI done on Saturday and am waiting for the results, I'm not sure if that can show up any muscle problems. I think in the meantime I will speak to the doctor about upping the baclofen. Thanks for your kind reply.
You are welcome. Hope the MRI gives you some answers.
I hope so too. My last one 7 years ago showed multi level DDD which was too extensive for surgery. The letter also stated someone about the likelihood of it being associated with segmental instability. When I have read up on this, it's quite daunting with little hope, or is it a phrase which is used to try to explain why the discs are degenerating?
Segmental instability is a term used to identify individual parts of the spine which are no longer working properly. A segment is made of an upper and lower vertebrae (bone), a disc in between the vertebrae, and the ligaments, muscle and tendons that help to support that segment of the spine. Instability occurs when bone breaks down, or a disc bulges or ruptures, and/or the ligaments, muscles and tendons are not supporting the segment.
Have you tried physical therapy to learn exercises you can do to strengthen the muscles and tendons of the segments that are unstable?
